Hi Ken.
I just (today) moved from my Windows Mobile 6.1 phone to an Android phone.  RIP WM 6.1.

Any hints on when an Android version might be released?

Keep waiting.

I used to really like DVD profiler. When I first found it I purchased it instantly and was my mainstay for managing my collection for the past few years. But sadly Andorid development seems to be lagging. I've made the decision to go with something else to manage MY Movies. Until they put out an android app that let's me scan MY Movies with my phone and sync MY Movies with my account online, It's another app for me to manage MY MOVIES.

There is an unofficial Android app here:
http://www.invelos.com/Forums.aspx?task=viewtopic&topicID=575354&PageNum=7&x=0#M1678851

I have no idea what it is like as I use Windows Phone 7 (and also use the unoffocial WP7 app).

Invelos does not, that's for sure. Can't blame Muad' Dib for his decision to look somewhere else, since it takes ages for an official Android App from Invelos to be released (if it will ever surface).
I think Invelos can earn an honest buck or two releasing such an App; a missed opportunity really.
The competition does not sit and wait and bring out improving Apps for DVD/Blu-ray collections.
A shame really Invelos.....hope an official App will be winging our way soon.... but in the meantime....

I wouldn't be surprised if Ken decides not to develop an Android app. He would need to develop for a highly fragmented market. With all the different versions of Android that are in use, the possibility of bugs seems really high. And even more important, Android users seem to be extremely reluctant to pay for their apps. While the Android market generates a lot of downloads for the free apps, the download numbers for paid apps are really small.

Once again...who cares what that user does? I don't. He posted in a public forum and I expressed my opinion on his decision to abandon one of, if not the best, DVD cataloging programs on the market just because he doesn't have his precious Droid app.

I couldn't care less if invelos ever developes an Android app as I don't have any devices that use it. I seriously doubt that any revenue generated from an Android app would even come close to covering developement and testing costs. A DVD cataloging program is a very nitch market and Android users even more so. Considering the statistics on Android users and their willingness to pay for Apps is probably what is keeping invelos from jumping on the Droid band wagon.

True. There are only 3 or four in the Android Market. I was surprised there were that many.

and Android users even more so.

You ARE kidding right?  Android is the number 1 or 2 mobile OS depending on who's survey you read. Probably more so if you count tablets and the Kindle Fire and the B&N ereader (the name escapes me).
Sounds like a fairly mainstream market to me.

I'm not so sure of that.  I just paid $9.99 for and app the day before yesterday and $14.99 for the Desktop "add-on".  It's a program I've used back as far as Palm computing.  Recently $4.99 from a different company for a program I was interested in.
**IF** the price is right, the program will be purchased. I'm a licensed user of the Desktop and Windows Mobile version of DVD Profiler.  I've posted here before $9.99 of around there is NOT and exorbitant price.

If you include all devices, Apple has the lead.  According to Apple, they have sold more than 250 million iOS devices.  Google claims that 190 million Android devices have been activated...I am guessing they used the word 'activated' because they don't actually sell the devices that use their OS.  Still, 190 million isn't something I would call a niche market.

Nobody is saying that there are no Android users who are willing to pay for an app. You are clearly one of them. You are however a minority. Just look at the statistics here. (The text is in German but the actual statistics are in English.)

I was referring to Android users that would purchase a DVD cataloging App not how many Android users there may be.

Consider yourself in the minority of Android users that purchase Apps then.

I have to admit, that I was a tad confused by what you wrote as well.  This makes more senes.  Thanks for the clarification.

I very much beg to differ here.

I have been an Android user for almost 2 years now and it's the phone I'm going to be keeping as I like the operating system.

I know there are free alternative's and paid for one's available but I for one would be more than willing to pay £20 odd for the program, which in dollar's is a little more, but it's about the only app I want for my Android phone.
DVDProfiler is one worth waiting for however long it take's, even if it mean's a third party using the source code to write Profiler for an android version. I'd offer to do it myself, but my skill's in programming are nil.

I think the interest in these forums alone show that there are many of us that are wanting and willing to pay for an Android version, and with Android phone's becoming more frequent in the market, I think it will still sell well.

There is also a lot of interest for the IOS version.  It makes me wonder how many copies were actually sold.  I wonder if there were enough copies sold to compensate Ken for his time for programming, debugging, and then support afterwards.

With that being said, I am sure that it weighs on Ken, whether the investment in time is worth the return.  While there is a number of people that express interest in an Android version, is there actually enough people that would actually pay for it.

I even had expressed an interest in purchasing, but with aside from having the ability to view my collection on the go, I am not sure that I would use much more than that away from my main computer.  I know that I would not enter new profiles, and have a scanner at home that does what I need.

The other issue that I am sure has big questions,  with each additional platform that is generated, there is more work involved with each DB upgrade.  New versions seem few and far between as it is.  Would people be willing to wait longer for DB upgrades, due to the additional time required for each platform?

Charlie
