My option isn't there: "Sell off ones you do like, but know that deep down, you aren't going to watch them again."

For instance, MIBII is on my for sale list because it's "alright". There's no room on my shelves for movies that are simply "alright" or even "quite good". I have MIB and I'd prefer to watch that twice on the trot than make room for the sequel again!

I also forgot to put up 'Buy the movies in boxsets to save space' ... but then you're stuck with what to do with doubles ... store in case the other's get scratched I guess

So many options ...

My option is:

Take discs and artwork and put them in binders. Takes about 1/4 of the space.
Throw away loads of keepcases...

Now, the next headache - what to do when even the binders fill all bookcases...?

Right now mine are spread out all over the basement floor. I don't have enough storage space, and not enough money to get more of said space. So I have piles of discs.

Sounds awfully familiar!     I still have no room! but at least all the DVDs are on shelves but now the books are lying all over the place

I find it interesting that the leader (so far) is "Start thinking where else to store them around the house."

Wouldn't the question in the thread title insinuate you have already done that?

Time to get a bigger house.

I went through this not long ago, spent a whole weekend transferring all of the keep cases to 7mm slimline. Almost doubled the available space and meant that space would take ages to fill up .... but it still filled up so then it was get rid of all CDs since I only listen to music via a media server or OGG player now anyway. I figure I now have space for another 3-400 before I have the same problem and can free up a fair bit then, if I have to, by putting TV boxsets elsewhere.

We've had this discussion before about double-dipping. I upgrade titles all the time to boxsets; it does save space. But, "then you're stuck with what to do with doubles"? No. Put them on Ebay! That's how I condone buying the boxset in the first place. Why on earth would you ever want two copies of the same disc, especially when you're out of room?

Where's the option for "I build my own storage!"

Shop class definitely had its merits.

I just buy another bookcase. The trouble is that I don't have room for another bookcase and the ones I have are starting to overflow

I wish I could check multiple boxes.. I choose the "bad DVD's" and sell those, then buy new ones to get back to where I was originally. So that doesn't work for a very long time..

Then I buy another bookcase.. or a dvd-shelf, really. After that I try to stash the DVD's wherever I can and get rid of some other things on my shelves, like books and games. Most of the decorative items have had to go a long time ago!

Oh, how I wish I could buy a bigger house! Just for my DVD's, I can live in the smaller one.

I got feed up with mine spread over several bookcase.
So I went and purchased the lumber and built my own into a 2M13cm X 2M13cm (7ft x 7ft) alcove spacing the shelves 22cms (8 3/4inch) apart.
I get 136 DVD's per shelf. Currently have five shelves filled with room for 4 more shelves, so should be alright for a while.

Somebody please define a while?

Steve
