| Posted: | | | | Is it possible to edit or add Christmas as a genre?
It is relatively easy to location movies that start with Christmas in the title when searching, but otherwise it is more time consuming to locate a holiday movie unless the title is readily known. Since my memory is like a fish net, it isn't helpful for me not readily knowing the holiday titles.
It would make it easier to be able to find movies quicker (Like Simpsons Christmas, Unlikely Angel, Smokey Mountain Christmas) to view during the holidays if there is a way to sort them as per a holiday-type movie. I haven't seen a way to edit the genre, but seems to me movies like Santa Clause, Santa Clause 2, Polar Express, etc, can be classified as Christmas movies and was surprised to see it is not available from the list nor can it be added by the user for local reference only (that I could find in the help).
Thanks |

Thanks It is very easy to do that, if there is a genre that you do not use. For example, if you don't use "special interest", you make a translation file where you "translate" "special interest" by "christmas". In my local database, I changed several items, it is very simple to do, without any complication, and it works fine. I tried first the tag system, but is more complicated an less easy to use after. But all the profiles where you use new entries must be kept local. | | | Images from movies | | | Last edited: by surfeur51 |

| Posted: | | | | If you use the Tag system you needn't worry about the complications by surfeur's suggestion. You can self-define as many Genre as you wish through the Tag system. They are searchable and hierarchial AND treated just like notes, they are the exclusive property of YOUR local databse.

The use of translation files is a very powerful tool to customize Dvdprofiler, but it is generally unknown by english speaking people who never tried to look at the possibities of this feature. Non speaking english people are better advice about it. Try it, you will not be disappointed. | | | Images from movies |

| Posted: | | | | LOL, I am not saying it isn't, surfeur, you assume that I am unaware. And no I wasn't slamming you, i was making an observation that stands. You even referred to it yourself. "But all the profiles where you use new entries must be kept local" The Tag system presents no such complication to worry about. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. The tags provide a better solution for this. | | | Matthias |

Skip Sir, You seem to forget that you recently compared me with nazi and vichy's regime. First I prefered to laugh at this insult that is so exagerated that it just made you ridiculous. But when other posters asked you to apologize, you prefered to confirm that it was exactly what you meant. So I ask you, very calmly, never to address to me anymore, unless I'm not sure to be able not to say publicly what I now think of you, though it is not the purpose of a forum for DVD lovers. | | | Images from movies |

I've been using that possibity for several years (since version2), and never saw any kind of problem (except that I must not contribute related profiles, anyway, as rules are now, I can no more contribute any profile.) I think it is a very good solution to solve kites0852's problem , but of course he'll decide what he wants. He may try it, it needs less than one minute to edit a translation file. | | | Images from movies | | | Last edited: by surfeur51 |

Can you tell whether you are never ever going to use a genre, or not? Yes, I'll never use "special interest" and "family", and I think that "anime" and "animation" can be only one, so for "music" and "musical"... | | | Images from movies |

IMO, Christmas is a topic, or a theme, not a genre. I agree with you, but kites0852 wishes to have it. I only said him how he can have it easily. Not our problem to know if he is right or not to wish to have Christmas. BTW, television is also not a genre, but it is in the list. | | | Images from movies | | | Last edited: by surfeur51 |

so for "music" and "musical"... I have to disagree on that. A concert is not a musical and vice versa | | | -- Enry |
