| Posted: | | | | I finally got a Blu-Ray player, they went on sale at Best Buy for $299 for the Sony BDP-S300, I couldnt pass that deal up. I have an older (3 years old) HD Projection TV with only 1080i input, no 1080p yet, but the picture is still amazing. My question is, is there any tricks that I should be aware of. I dont own any Blu-Ray discs yet, but I plan on buyin a couple before X-Mas, is there any must haves? Should I do something special to my player, that is not mentioned on the manual. I did the firware upgrade already, but didnt notice anything. Thanks in advanced. |

The only other suggestion I can think of is to not buy an HD-DVD. |

| Posted: | | | | Also be aware that you CAN play future Bluray discs that list "Profile 1.1" features, you just cant access those specific 1.1 features as yours is a Profile 1.0 player. But you will still be able to watch the movie and most of the extras. As for must haves, that comes down to personal choice, personally you couldn't give me one of those ghastly pirate movies inspired by Disneyland rides, I would throw it straight in the bin but the Blade Runner Final Cut, and Kubrick releases are pure gold to me. | Posted: | | | | Congratulations! I'm sure you'll love it. And that's not a bad price either. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection. |

| Posted: | | | | Thanks for all the positive feedback, My wife is a little worried that I am going to go crazy and want to buy every single Blu-Ray movie out there. I must say I have learned my lesson thought. Back when DVD first started, I was buying 2-3 every week on tuesday. It became a really big problem. I was spending 300 dollars a month just on DVDs. When I had too many I would sell off 100 of them for say $150, and reallized what an idiot I was an how much money I spent. Now what I do, is I belong to the Blockbuster mail in DVD service and I watch the movies first if I like them I ut them on a list and when I have the extra money, birthdays, x-mas, easter, or even Valentines, that is what I ask for. It works out really good, and I feel better about my self. It was so bad that I was selling movies still in wrappers, brand new for what would turn out to be $2.oo each, movies that cost me a minimum of $16.oo each. Dohhhh! |

I went to Best Buy to take advantage of their BOGO sale on HD DVDs and added the Sony BDP-S300 and a bunch of Blu-rays too. I think Ratatouille looks phenomenal in HD. I had trouble with the firmware update. I'll send you a PM. | | | ...James

Various people on this forum have reported between 2 and 7 free Blu-ray discs are being given away. |

Spider-man 3 if you want to hold out for the hope of future better releases of SM1 and 2), Bram Stoker's Dracula, Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Blade Runner is getting rave reviews. Also, the rebate program is being run by Buena Vista, I have heard nothing but good things about it. I did it when I bought my PS3 in the summer, took 9 weeks. They say to allow 8-10 weeks and you can track it online. If you'd like, I can give you the tracking URL. | | | Signature banned: Reason out of date... |
