| Posted: | | | | Now let me get this straight. Prior to the announcement, straight Blu-Ray players (not PS3s) were still slightly outselling the significantly cheaper straight HD players? Something seems more than a little odd here. I think somebody has pulled their data right out of their keister when they made those pie charts. It would appear that the winners really do get to write history. | | | Last edited: by mdnitoil |

Presumably a very selective list of retailers at that. Seeing as how it's all moot at this point, I suppose it doesn't matter. Considering it's coming from the Bits, the information was going to be skewed right out of the gate. The only site I would trust less would be Blu-ray.com. |

How is that skewed when you report factual information from an independent firm? Right. Instead of skewed, I should have said selective...as in only presenting those facts that bolster your side. Kind of like how in politics every side can present a poll that bolsters their argument, frequently all at the same time. |

| Posted: | | | | What was there to spin? FACTS!?!??! The Digital Bits: Quote: Here's how the January Week 1 unit sales looked for each format (week ending 1/5)...
Blu-ray Disc - 15,257 units HD-DVD - 14,558 units
That was prior to the Warner announcement, which came on 1/4. Now here's how the January Week 2 unit sales data for each format looked AFTER the announcement (for the week ending 1/12)...
Blu-ray Disc - 21,770 units HD-DVD - 1,758 units
As you can see, the HD-DVD player numbers dropped dramatically. However, it's also true that 21,770 isn't a doubling of the 15,257 of the previous week, so we stand corrected on the Blu-ray comment - Blu-ray player sales did not double, but they did increase significantly. It was always our intention that the data would speak for itself, which is why we were very careful in accurately creating the pie charts, and it's why we're posting the unit sales data for you now. We think the data DOES speak for itself, but now you can all draw your own conclusions.
While we're at it, here are the unit sales numbers for the month of December as well (weeks ending 12/8 to 12/29)...
Blu-ray Disc - 115,132 units HD-DVD - 76,148 units | | | Signature banned: Reason out of date... |

| Posted: | | | | pplchamp has just posted that as well. Percentages remain unaltered. Blu-Ray players sold more (but didn't double sales as they erroneously stated first), but what really shifted the pie slices was that HD-DVD player sales really hit the ground... hard. So it really is that image of the abandoning ship at the sign of trouble. | | | With every passing hour our solar system comes forty-three thousand miles closer to globular cluster M13 in the constellation Hercules, and still there are some misfits who continue to insist that there is no such thing as progress. |

| Posted: | | | | there you go... blu-ray player sales didn't double, their percent of the total sales did... in fact... its actually more devastating to hd-dvd as it should read.... | | | -JoN |

| Posted: | | | | Warner said one of the main reasons they went with Blu was SA hardware passing up HD DVD in sales. I don't see what this has to do with the Bits. It's not like they're the onyl one making this claim. |

| Posted: | | | | The key for BD is not whether it kills HD DVD, but whether it can succeed itself. With the percentages alone, we don't know if BD sold 92% of 100 units or 100,000. If the latter, it's in good shape. If the former, not so much. There's been a long-standing argument that people are waiting to buy until the format war is over. Will that actually materialize? Wait and see. | | | "This movie has warped my fragile little mind." |
