| Posted: | | | | Grand Theft Auto IV Breaks Guinness World Records with Biggest Entertainment Release of All-Time The popular franchise trumps all other entertainment title sales.
May 13, 2008 - The famed Grand Theft Auto series has made headlines yet again! As newly-released sales figures show, Grand Theft Auto IV has crushed the competition by selling 3.6 million units and earning $310 million in its first day of release, earning Guinness World Records for the Highest Grossing Video Game in 24 Hours and the Highest Revenue Generated by an Entertainment Product in 24 Hours. These records establish GTA IV as the most profitable entertainment release of all-time, far surpassing other video game, film and book releases. According to Guinness World Records, this is how the game stacks up against the competition:
Fastest-selling video game in 24 hours: Halo 3 at $170 million
Fastest-selling theatrical movie in 24 hours: Spider-Man 3 at $60 million
Fastest-selling book in 24 hours: Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows at $220 million
The all-new Guinness World Records: Gamer's Edition 2008 (SRP: $19.95), the first Guinness World Records book devoted solely to the world of gaming, is on shelves now and bursting with new records, high score statistics and fascinating facts.

If a child gets his hands on it, then the parent is not doing his job. Why is it that a game that depicts adult subject is immediately frowned upon, but a movie, there's nothing wrong there? |

| Posted: | | | | Excellent point Ross, why should we adults not be allowed to play the games we want just because some adults aren't capable of saying no to their "little angels"? |

| Posted: | | | | Sorry, my mistake. A game (or movie) that encourages adults (and mature children) to rob, rape, pillage and murder. Ok, let's celebrate free speech |

| Posted: | | | | I really have no problem at all with brutal games. It is rated mature and most shops don't give it to underage children.
I myself play games like CoD4 to relief tension. Would you rather have me get a gun and pick up people who walk by my house? | | | Check out my Youtube channel under https://www.youtube.com/user/alittleolder |

Ok, let's celebrate free speech If people cannot see the differences between a game (or movie) and real life, the world clearly has a problem. Come to that, any game (or movie) that has a rating 12+, shows at least one of the aspects (except "rape" maybe) and if you ad "sex between unmarried persons" you can go down to 6+. Anyone who feels encouraged by "game (or movie)", book or any other media (even voices from above) to "rob, rape, pillage and murder" needs a psychiatrist and not a movie. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

"Confirmed: Sex minigame in PS2 San Andreas Cheat unlocks preexisting code in controversy-rocked Grand Theft Auto game, undermining Rockstar Games' claims of hacker mischief." http://www.gamespot.com/news/6129301.html "Rockstar's statement also claimed that the mod was the product of complex technical tampering. "Since the 'Hot Coffee' scenes cannot be created without intentional and significant technical modifications and reverse-engineering of the game's source code, we are currently investigating ways that we can increase the security protection of the source code and prevent the game from being altered by the 'Hot Coffee' modification," read the statement." "However, Rockstar Games' argument has been undermined by an increasing number of reports that claimed the sex minigame is in the PlayStation 2 version of San Andreas. Since the PS2 version comes on an unmoddable DVD, it cannot have any content added to it, although cheat codes--created either by the publisher or third parties--can unlock preexisting code on the disc. While devices such as GameShark and Action Replay Max can tweak preexisting variables in system memory with cheats, they cannot inject new models, animations, and/or code into a game." "To prove or disprove rumors that the PS2 San Andreas contains a sexually graphic minigame, GameSpot decided to test the cheat codes circulating around the Web on a sealed, first-edition copy of San Andreas. After acquiring the "Uncensored Hot Coffee" codes from the respected tech-blog Kotaku, we entered them into an easily obtainable Action Replay Max cheat device. After entering the "Enable all Girlfriends" cheat, we began the game and then gave CJ maximum sex appeal, via a cheat from GameFAQs that requires no external code." |

| Posted: | | | | Didn't say if they confirmed it or not... Though if you watch the mission intro movie on one of the first missions of GTA:SA, you can see some extracurricular activities going on in the back room. | | | Last edited: by Dr. Killpatient |

Ok, let's celebrate free speech You're right.. kids should go back to the basics when games were innocent. They should play Space Invaders. Oh wait, that might encourage xenophobia and the violent destruction of the "unknown" with a big giant gun. Okay, maybe Super Mario Brothers. Crap, that might encourage animal cruelty with kids jumping on turtles, flipping them over, and then kicking them down the street at each other. Hmm.. maybe Pac-man. Oh no, that will encourage binge eating or other eating disorders and has disturbing scenes of some creature with a giant mouth eating other creatures and them vomiting out their eyeballs. You're right.. there's no safe games. They're destroying our children. There's a reason the game is rated Mature and lists this on the box: -Partial Nudity -Strong Language -Strong Sexual Content -Use of Drugs and Alcohol -Blood -Intense Violence It's no different than an R-rated movie. If a parent doesn't let their kids watch R-rated movies but then buys them a game like this.. well, that's just ignorant parents. I think there's also a stigma or general mentality that says "Games" = "kids", which isn't reality. Sure, tons of kids play games but so do tons of adults. And just like there are G movies for kids and R movies for adults, there are some games for kids and there are some games for adults. | | | "Rules are for the obedience of fools and the guidance of wise men" - Douglas Bader "A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools." - Douglas Adams |
