| Posted: | | | | Whast's involved in doing this is hard to say, but it would be nice if every field in Profiler would fill itself in. In short, I don't care one way or the other. We will always have data entry to do. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

| Posted: | | | | There are quite a few things that in theory Profiler could fill in itself automatically: layers, regions, subtitles, audio tracks, runtime among others I'm sure Maybe one of our programming friends could write an IFOedit plugin? |

| Posted: | | | | It would save some work, but you'd still need to verify it since even the specialized utitlities sometimes get it wrong. | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 |

Skip Too bad there isn't: Psychic DVD Profiler, where every field is magically and correctly filled in automatically. | | | Corey |

Maybe one of our programming friends could write an IFOedit plugin? I agree about layer and regions (RCE excluded). But for audio, subtitles, and runtime profiler would need a way to detect the main feature from the titles (film tracks) of a disc. |

| Posted: | | | | For that information, I would figure the program would simply ask you which title on the disc is the one to use.
Edit: one program I use, DVD decrypter, defaults to the longest title on the disc, but still allows a manual override. | | | Last edited: by northbloke |

| Posted: | | | | And how would it work for something like a TV Series where you have to add all the running times on the disc / in the set together? | | | Pete |

I'm curious as to why this wouldn't be a matter of size? It is easy to get the size of the disc, and you could infer single layer if it is too small, but be assured that it is double layer if it is over approx. 4.7 GB. That doesn't seem hard - what am I missing? | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. Hey, new product!!! BDPFrog. |

That doesn't seem hard - what am I missing? Actually it's easier than that. There are numerous tools available that will tell you exactly how many layers are on the disc. You aren't a Profiler if you don't have a toolkit. Many of the tools will also give you runtimes, Audio data to a point, subtitles and so forth. But the easiest way without a tool to identify layers is with your EYES. Pick up a disc and look at the play side (this does not work with Dual-Sided discs), now look at the center area of the disc and tilt it slightly, if you see two concentric rings which a barcode in each...guess what Dual Layer, one barcode Single Layer. That doesn't seem hard - what am I missing? You could make a double layer disc with less than 4.7 GB (completely conforming to the standard). And you could pretend (breaking the standard for a copy protection scheme) that a single layer disc has more than 4.7 GB. |

| Posted: | | | | Your can also visually inspect the DVD to see if it has one layer or two. A single layer DVD will only have one bar code on the inner ring - a dual layer DVD will have two. |
