I have been busy putting together this pilot project: A page of abstracts or summaries of all the FR topics.
At present only three of the 63 pages of the FR index are abstracted and presented here.

The question is: Will you folks find it useful?

EDIT: I am indebted to Mark Harrison for planting this idea in my head.

First of all, thank you for your effort!

Yes, I do believe it would be useful. As far as I can see, it could serve two main purposes:
1) it would help preventing requesting the same feature over and over again;
2) it would provide Ken with a more "manageable" list of feature requests than is currently available.
I would also like to refer to Gerri's thread "If I had one wish for 3.5, what would it be?" as well as
northbloke's list of bugs in the 3.5 beta , which Ken himself declared was very helpful.

The question is: how to maximize these effects?
I think, first of all some form of categorizing feature requests, putting together requests that more or less deal with the same aspects of the program,  would be necessary - a simple list will soon become just as impossible to handle as the Feature Requests forum itself.
Secondly, a form of editing requests in order to ensure that they are as short and concise as possible (e.g. using keywords only) would seem to be necessary as well.

And thus... this will only work if one or more user(s) is/are both willing and able to devote significant efforts to "moderate" such a list and to keep it up-to-date.

Thanks for the effort from me too. (if you still can read this)

First i wasn't quite sure what might be the use of your "summary", but after Dee1959jay's explanation it got clear.
Great idea.

EDIT: Probably it could be moved to the Knowledge Base so that we'd have just one place to go to for extra information?
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

I will not find it useful as it is hosted off site.  Not sure if Ken will find it useful...history tells me he probably won't go off site either.

for the effort though.

It would be much better implementation to collect all feature requests in one post, same style as "Bugs found in Beta 3.5" has all found bugs collected in the first post of that thread...and keep that up-to-date.

Good place to start would be "If I had one wish...." thread.

I'll have to agree with those saying it's less useful than it could be when it's hosted off-site. I can understand the challenge in collecting all feature requests into one post, seeing as how there's hundreds of them, but you could do one post for 1-100, a second one for 101-200, etc.

Another way to tackle it could be to focus on the most commonly requested features. Or the features with the most support.

I also agree with those who say starting with Gerri's thread would be a good idea.

All I will offer on this, along the same lines as both Unicus and Astra, is that this has been done before, this is old news and that off-site location appears to be maintained no longer, or minimally at best. BTDT.

Lots of benefit as a single page, but...
with 1200+ topics, the page would be too huge, I think. 750kb is my estimate.
What do you think?

I think it better to keep it off the forum, where it cannot be interfered with.

I think it would be better to have it onsite long term.
Remember only you can edit the initial post, so as long as it's kept up to date it doesn't matter what people post in the topic afterwards.

In order to cut down on the initial work, how about setting a time limit? Maybe only go for the feature requests in the past six months and maybe ignore any feature requests that got no positive responses.

Popular feature requests are always asked for again, so the time limit shouldn't lose anything major.

Edit: PS - I wouldn't put too much effort into just yet - not until Ken or Gerri give it a thumbs up - cos if they don't like the idea, I can't see it lasting.

The problem with a thread is that the overview gets lost if the thread gets too long.
So a summary seems to be a nice idea. Another solution would be subforums to the FR-forum.

I thought it useful to give the single page approach a try.
It came in under 700Kb -- not too bad.
Does anyone have a problem with a page that big?

It is up to you but, as I said, you will probably have better luck getting Ken and Gerri on board if it is hosted here.
