Another reason why I've stopped contributing to existing Profiles

Hello all

This post isn't to whinge per se; it's more to point out a potential reason for why the current version of Profiler may result in more people not contributing.

I've just done an update on Johnny Depp's Charlie and the Chococlate factory...and for the first time I'm really glad that I'm not contributing any more.

Here's why:
1. I've started typing over the existing job titles for accuracy - therefore 'Art Director' reads 'Supervising Art Director' if necessary. Now my crew is more accurate.

2. I disagree with the number of new Art crew we should include (mainly in the make-up and costumes section). Now I can add the ones I want.

3. I think that we should be able to add the Effects House to the profile - otherwise the extremely long lists of Visual Effects people has little to no meaning. In my Charlie & the Chocolate Factory profile I have been able to add dividers for each effects house and then have the people I want in it.

Have a look at my online collection (and find Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) to see what I mean.
Here: http://www.invelos.com/DVDCollection.aspx/Pantheon

Now, I personally think it's more informative.
I also think other people would want this profile.
I would prefer to be contributing this for others to benefit from. But, under the current rules I can't. Rules are rules - and I respect that...which is why I've stopped contributing to existing profiles so that I can get the best out of the program.

NB: I posted this in the wrong forum!!!

So I'll tack on a request - that dividers be allowed in crew for effects houses.

Anyway, you could use the new "Custom Role" feature for the non contributable roles/job titles, and contribute the rest.

Yes, I realise that.

But, I don't see why I should have to use custom roles when the correct jobs are already available within the program.

My decision to stop contributing is a very recent thing - and largely down to wanting to get better use out of the program. Which, unfortunately, results in breaking some rules.

Also...your suggestion still doesn't allow for the Effects House divider - which to me is makes the data much more relevant and informative.

Fair enough, but until recently we didn't have Visual Effects at all

I would have no problem if the rules were changed to allow a divider for special effects and sound companies.

As to the rest, contributing data that follows the rules and breaking the rules for my own db are not mutually exclusive concepts...it just requires a little bit of extra work on my part.

my personal opinion here only of course... but I personally prefer it the way it is now. Just don't personally care for how it looks with those dividers in there. But that is me.

I already use them for my cast list...when the end credits are in alphabetical or order of appearance...so using them for crew wouldn't be a big deal for me.

Once I contribute the profile, per the rules, I add a divider for 'Cast in Alphabetical Order'...or whatever it says in the end credits...then add the cast, in opening credit order, above that.  The ability to add an actor multiple times made my life a ton easier.

I agree Pantheon it looks very nice and I would vote yes to this both in the database and using dividers for crew effects houses. I think it makes the credits look much nicer.

I think it looks fantastic and it's too bad I'll never get that data in my database.  I just don't have the time needed to do that level of detail.  Nice job Pantheon!

I hope you do contribute this, I think it is a graphical illustration of an improvement, and would be interesting to see the votes?

As nice as it looks, it is clearly against the rules.  Votes or not, it would have to be rejected.

Unicus is completely correct.

Prior to 3.5 I've ALWAYS contributed everything I do and it was a tough decision to stop. The first profile I updated that I didn't hit the contribute button had my heart speeding up and my palms sweating! It was bizarre!

However, with how I want to use the program it's now too time consuming having to do each profile twice - once for contribution and then again for my personal use.
I haven't got the time - so I'm afraid everyone else has to go without.

Maybe we should set up a profiles that look nice, but don't follow the rules, sharing club...similar to the re-release cover scan group.

Or change the rules?
