not sure if this is the right place to post this and I didn't find anything about it when searching, but...

is there any plan to make a Windows 8 (metro) application down the road? I'm debating a windows 8 tablet purchase and really want to have access to dvd profiler. If the price is right I can always get an intel chipped  tablet, or I could save some cash and get the arm version.

with the arm version having Office and access to email, web, and media I don't see the huge benefit for the intel version when I have another computer unless the pricing comes out really close.

just a question I'd really like to be able to bring dvd profiler with me and even be able to add to my collection from the tablet and not just the desktop.

I kind of figured it'd be a long ways out if at all.

I guess I'll have to wait and see how much the x86 tablets are going for if this is a must

I have just started testing my plugins on Windows 8 (Pro 32 bit). Mixed results so far.

Maybe some people are interested in my experiences:

What is Windows 8? (my words)
Windows 8 is a follow-on to windows 7 that is designed to take advantage of the trend towards tablet and cloud computing, but on PC hardware. There are new features and software making applications sensitive to touch screens, mouse and keyboard seamlessly. User options and application settings are stored in the cloud, so that your application performs exactly the same, no matter where (which platform) you launch it.

Windows 8 "modes":
There are two modes of use:
Store Apps mode - applications are downloaded from the App Store and options are stored in the cloud. Applications run as though running on a tablet, although when not running on a tablet, the mouse, keyboard and touchpad are also supported. Developer software makes all devices available on PC desktops available to tablet applications, but the Store Apps run in a new user interface comprised of "Tiles".
Desktop Apps mode - basically this looks nearly identical to Windows 7. All the windows apps that I have tried so far, have run exactly the same way, and look exactly the same on Windows 8, as they do on Windows 7, including DVD Profiler.

There are specific mouse / hand motions that are used to switch between Tile mode and Desktop mode. When Desktop apps are installed, the system creates a tile block that switches into Desktop mode and launches the app in "Windows 7" mode.

Now depending on the hardware you are running Windows 8 on, you may be able to access one or both of these modes. For example, a typical windows capable PC runs both modes. I am using the Internet Explorer Store App launched from a tile right now. At the same time, I can click over to the Desktop and run regular IE exactly the same as on Windows 7.

The new Windows tablets could conceivably be designed either as desktop replacements, or have hardware features limited to tablet use, and not be supportive of Desktop Apps. We will have to wait and see. I think today's tablet PCs should support both modes.

Overall impressions of Windows 8:
- Calm, clean and quick
- Extremely fast and easy installation
- Automatically creates dual boot mode if installed from a DVD and a disk partition is available
- Where did "Media Center" go? I haven't found it yet.

DVD Profiler on Windows 8:
- Faster, smooth operation so far
- Invelos plugins work OK
- My plugin LoadDVD working so far, so good
- My plugin BulkEdit crashes
- With a bit of imagination, you can envision DVDP running in Tile mode, providing the long requested MCE style interface on Windows.

I will report more as I go along. I hope some folks have found this information  interesting. Aside from fixing my plugins, I am hoping to get enough confidence to  consider creating some Store Apps that work with DVD Profiler.

Another tidbit: Windows 8 voice playback is a lot smarter and more natural. MyTools users can hear this by using the "Say Overview" icon. LoadDVD users can hear this by copying "[SAY] %overview%" into the clipboard and clicking Tools>Automation>Run Clipboard Action. It is almost like a talking book!

BTW: The new Surface tablets (the cheaper ones) do not run Windows 8 but Windows RT and furthermore can only install software from the Microsoft store (here's a nice article about it).

You'll need a Surface Pro tablet to run DVD Profiler.

A lot of users (newer users) of collection software also look for a wider area of media types. Such as being able to scan your harddrive for media, and media specs etc. Which I know dvd profiler will never support.
A new and improved interface would be nice, but it would surprise me if we saw that anytime soon lol 

Media Player is already installed with Windows 8 Pro. What I think is needed are the codecs for DVD playback, that you will have to install media center to get. The reason is Microsoft had to pay a licence for every copy of Windows sold, even if they were never used. So they have made it an option instead.
