| Posted: | | | | Hi Folks,
For those of you who do not live in the US, perhaps you are not aware that the heavily populated northeastern portion of the US is bracing for a massive storm that is raging up the Atlantic coast, scheduled to make a left turn and slam into NYC / New Jersey / New England sometime Monday. The storm is a confluence of two big storms, and bigger than anything seen since early 1900s. They are expecting high winds, high storm surge coupled with full moon high-tide, producing downed power lines, heavy flooding and several days of heavy rains.
In low lying areas they are closing schools and having forced evacuations of homes and hospitals. NYC subways and buses are being shut down as of Sunday night. The subway system is mostly below ground, and lower Manhattan is roughly at sea level and surrounded by water.
At my house, not really close to the sea, we are preparing to be without power for days, which is predicted. For those of you who have friends or family in the area, please keep them in your thoughts. The next few days are going to be rough. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. | Posted: | | | | The Weather Channel Video Storm of the CenturyWatching the maps, the size of this storm, the area, it is awesome. In the 1963 I got stuck days in a hotel out in Long Island, NY. They ran out of scotch. My 1963 Avanti was completely covered with snow. | | | We don't need stinkin' IMDB's errors, we make our own. Ineptocracy, You got to love it. | Posted: | | | | Yea, I've been hearing about it. After Hurricane Katrina bombarded us even more extensively than expected, I have been careful to watch the really big ones along the coast, even all of the way up there.

| Posted: | | | | We're in southern Brooklyn, on the edge of the secondary flooding area towards high ground. The primary flooding area has been ordered evacuated as mediadogg said. Last year's hurricane left us with about 6 inches of water in the basement, but that storm came after two weeks of some heavy rain so the ground was already mostly saturated. My nephew and I also poured 8 bags of cement in the place where we had runoff come in the basement, so I think we're ok there. Nonetheless, we welcome your prayers and other kind thoughts. |

Stay safe and dry as you can. I having been following this monster for days now. As hurricanes go there is not much to it, very poorly organized, but it is huge. One of the biggest I have seen for acategory 1.Expecttoget pretty well slammed in metro dc/ Baltimore. It is kind of weird to think hurricane and snow flurries here, but it might happen. Have all of you in my thoughts and prayers, going to be a rough 3 or 44it days.í blasted keyboard 4 days. | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

| Posted: | | | | Lots of wind, but not much rain as of yet....
City schools are closed through tomorrow and transit is down (shut down on purpose to protect the equipment), so I'm home from work watching the trees blow. (No trees that can hit the house if they fall, thankfully.)
So far, last year's storm was worse. |

| Posted: | | | | We had record numbers of 90 degree weather days this year. Now, for the last 3 weeks or so, all it has done is rain.
My dogs have been playing slip and slide in my yard - running, leaping onto their bellies and sliding across the yard.
I've never had to clean so much mud in my life but they are hysterical to watch. |

| Posted: | | | | Haven't we had about four "Storms of the Century" already this century? A serious situation, to be sure, but some of the hyperbole on the networks (including Weather Channel) is kind of ridiculous.
I'm in New England, so yes, we're taking it seriously up here, but there's no need to panic. We had massive flooding from Irene last year, so I think we're likely better prepared for this one. |

| Posted: | | | | A lot of wind and a moderate rain here in NH. I only saw a few minor branches down on my way home from work and I had 1 screen window pop out and got destroyed when it crashed into the railing of the porch below. The lights have dimmed a few times, but have remained on...so far (it also helps I live down the street from the water plant, so I'm usually one of the first to regain power when it does go out). I've seen a lot worse in the past, but I also know this storm still hasn't fully hit yet. | | | My phpDVDprofiler collection |
