| Posted: | | | | How exactly would we distinguish those?
I'm aware of several cases where the usual indicator (XYZ presents) doesn't help, because the releasing studio was a production company too, but not separately credited for this.
The only way I could think of, is to research for each and every Producer credit for which company the person worked at this time. I fear that this is by far too cumbersome for most of us. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

| Posted: | | | | I can see that, lewis. But I would say it does no harm and does create a great dealof benefit. First it will obviate the need for a posting such as was recently done. Secondly giving it its own home also precludes some confusion caused by the rule stating that theatrical release/distributor takes the top spot but there is not always an identified distributor, particularly if one of the major production studios is serving both positions, which is by far the most common. | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! | Posted: | | | | Another point would be that this would free up one of the slots for Production Company, and many modern films now have multiple production companies involved (esp. international co-productions).
As for the answer to companies performing both roles, enter them in both slots. That seems easy. | | | If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world. -- Thorin Oakenshield |

| Posted: | | | | I think this will needlessly complicate things. The better solution, in my opinion, would be a change to the rules...from what we have to 'copy the studios in the order credited' and give us a few more slots to enter names. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. Most users probably have a hard time knowing exactly which studios are actually theatrical release studios. I know I often do. And I never understood why the correct order was such a big deal anyway. | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users. Gunnar |

| Posted: | | | | I have to disagree with both you. As,I have explained, less than perfect, but consistentdats. If there is a distributor its in the first slit. Doing it your way makes the data worthless, the distributor might be any of those listed or none of them. The best way is to break it out, then there is a distributor or there is not, simple. And as Cass noted it frees up another spot for production data. Horrible idea. | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

My problem was how to tell if they should be placed in both slots or just in one, if the credit merely is "XYZ presents" | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! | Posted: | | | | Is it that I'm expressing myself not precise enough, or is it that you don't want to understand me?
OK, I'll try to give a better example:
Credits are:
XYZ presents
in association with 123 Productions
a x2z Production
for x2z it's easy, it would belong into the Production slot. For the two others, using only the Studio-credits, it's impossible to say if they are only Release companies, or if they were involved in the production too. To find out which you'd have to check each and every Producer-credit and see for which company the person worked at this time. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! Just dealing with the hypothetical data and no more specific info. I would say there is a probability that xyz would be theatrical release/distributor. | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here
