Up until now I have posted in the General Discussion forum, since ProfilerQuery isn't actually a plugin. But since several other tools are documented here, and since this is where people in need of a tool will problby look, I have decided to post here in the future.

ProfilerQuery 2.6:

- Top 100 Actors added to statistics
- Both query and statistics are now run in background threads, so as not to make the program look like it is hanging. If you have a large collection you may notice that the statistics tab is disabled a little longer than the rest.

If you haven't tried ProfilerQuery before, take a look at the documentation.

Maybe in other countries cast is still useful, but in Germany the Top 100 "Actors" are now uncredited German voice-over artist names.

It's easy enough to exclude voice-only in ProfilerQuery. Problem solved.

No, problem not solved. That would exclude the credited voices, eg Hugo Weaving as Megatron. I'm talking about the uncredited Germans, eg Megatron Hans-Jürgen Wolf.

OK, you can exclude uncredited and you can exclude voice-only, but not those who are both. If that's not good enough, I can't help you, I'm afraid.

I still think that cast can be useful to some users, if not to you.

By the way, if you want to export your owned collection easier than going through File -> Export Profile Database then you can use a command file. Mine looks like this:

CollectionType Owned
ClearAllFilters
ExportXMLFiltered E:\DvdProfilerExport\Collection.xml

Of course you'll need to put in an output file name and path that suits you.
Name the command file something informative, for example ExportOwned.txt.
You use File -> Run Command File to execute it.

I think I have to reverse myself; you can exclude uncredited voice actors. I tend to forget the OR-logic in ProfilerQuery, because I have never had any reason to use it myself. However, selecting "Or" instead of "And" and using Not Uncredited plus Not Voice should give you all actors except uncredited voice actors.

However, this may be of limited use. If you also wish to exclude genre Television, for example, you're out of luck. That would require mixing OR-logic with AND-logic, which is something that ProfilerQuery does not support (and btw neither does DVD Profiler itself).

I have finally corrected what I consider a bad program design mistake. I used the registry to save selection and presentation sets. I should have saved them as files instead. With files I could have used the old familiar file dialogs for saving and loading, and the explorer for housekeeping (i.e. deleting sets no longer needed, renaming sets etc.)

Another advantage is that if you ever would want to transfer your sets to a new computer, copying files is a whole lot smoother than copying registry entries. And safer...

Well, I decided to bite the bullet and fix this. It turned out to be rather more work that I first expected, but now it's done. And in case anyone out there have a lot of saved sets (which I kind of doubt), there is also a utility to move sets from the registry into the appropriate AppData directory. Probably a wasted effort on my part, but I guess it's the old professional developer in me that just compels me to make the transition as smooth as possible for my "customers".

And while I was fixing things I also fixed another old bug, the misspelled "Martial Arts" in the genres selection.

That's a lot of work for rather little payoff, you may think, but hey - I need to get away from the TV screen now and then, and just sit in front of another screen

Trivia of the day: The source code for ProfilerQuery contains almost 5000 lines of code (comment lines not included). An old developer wisdom says that there will be one bug per 100 lines of code, so if there are (or have been) less than 50 bugs - I'm better than average. Looking at the version history I am well below that. Of those found so far.

Anyway, I have released ProfilerQuery 2.7.0 today. Let's hope you don't find the rest of the 50 bugs

Gunnar,

I have the problem with 2.7.0 that the titles are not dispayed in "Results" (I only can see the number of affected titles).

What OS are you on? I'm still on Win 7, so I'm unable to test on Win 10.
I've heard some people having problems with Win 10, where some fields don't show up until you move the cursor across them. Might that be true for you too?

There seems to be situations where WPF doesn't play nice with some graphics drivers, resulting in that some components do not show. With help from user TraunStaa I have managed to find a workaround for when the result grid does not show in ProfilerQuery. I was under the impression that this was only a problem under Windows 10, but apparently it can manifest itself under Windows 7 as well. I haven't seen it myself, though.

In addition to that, this version now saves and restores the main window position between sessions. That goes for both position and state, so if you quit the program minimized or maximized, that's how it will start next time.

So, here is ProfilerQuery 2.7.1.

Another minor update to fix problems with parts of ProfilerQuery not displaying properly, this time with Windows 10. After a few false starts I managed to fix the problem reported by Wigram. During the testing I noticed that I had a totally unnecessary ScrollViewer in the selection tab, so I removed that. Probably not something that anyone would notice, so mark that one down as trivia.

Anyway, if anyone has any problems with parts of ProfilerQuery coming up blank, this will hopefully remedy that. The new version is 2.7.2.
