All right then, is Image a distributor for The Criterion Collection or isn't it?

This is one of those things that like "Production Year" that actually means "Release Year" could be clarified BEFORE it creates all sorts of questions and issues unnecessarily.

Since you asked the answer is no, Image is not a distributor in that case. That relationship is much like the various Disney branches, gard. Image produces the discs and turns them "over" to Criterion for DISTRIBUTION, just like Disney DVD is NOT a Distributor, BVHE is the distributor for ALL things Disney.

Skip

You have it reversed: Criterion produces the discs, Image distributes them to the stores.

With your 2nd example, therein lies the question that gardibolt was pointing out: if there is only one field, are you listing Disney DVD or BVHE?  Disney DVD should be the choice, as it is the producer of the disc, not BVHE.

Multiple fields will erase any problem, since we can include all of them.  Just need to decide in what order.

Image distributes title under the Image banner, they do not distribute The Criterion Collection and haven't going way back to the earliest days of laserdisc. This one can be a little confusing since Criterion is a "subsidiary" of the larger Image, but that's the way it works. I feel your pain, midnit, but it REALLY ius not to understand and comprehend, you do have to have some understanding of the industry and what role DisneyDVD fills versus the DISTRIBUTOR BVHE, but it is not very hard.

I think you misunderstand what I'm saying.  Image handles the actual distribution of Criterion titles.  The physical distribution.  Criterion produces the discs, but Image is responsible for their shipment to on-line and B&M stores.  This is a common thing in the industry.  Most non-studio labels have a larger distributor like Image handle getting their product into stores.  In fact, the recently deceased Tartan has placed the blame of their demise on their distributor Genius Entertainment for bad accounting.

As for Disney DVD vs. BVHE, this is why the issue is being brought up now.  To me, it is more important to know who actually produced the disc (Disney DVD) than who sent out to what stores (BVHE).  Otherwise, we'll be seeing Image instead of Criterion by that standard.

- Added support for custom cast/crew photos on a per-profile basis.  These are stored outside the database in a configurable directory, with subdirectories by UPC.  The program handles the files but users are also free to place images there directly.  Files not in a per-UPC directory will override the DB image for those who chose to have all images outside the DB.

I hope that there's finally a fix for the current cast/crew linking problem also. Otherwise not only could a profile update break the link between an actor's two profiles. ie John Doe, Jr. <> John Doe Jr but it could also have the affect of losing the link between the cast photo in the profile also. Unless you are not storing the photos by actors names? If not, I hope you will still fix the first problem.

I'm so excited, I can hardly sit still long enough to write this. Ken, you have made it so easy for us to have our local database any way we want it, I don't know why anyone complains. I tell everyone I talk to about movies, DVDs and BRDs about this wonderful database program I have. You will give us an explanation of the rules and when specific topics come up that defy the rules you'll give us your expertise then too. Thanks Ken.

P.S. Let's not argue about what it will or will not be...let's be happy we have it for the very cheap price we paid. Other database programs with this kind of scope cost a lot more.

It's a great programme, why not waiting a little bit for enhancements. One day or more is so little time. Haste makes waste.

Well, the funniest spam-mail I have ever gotten was in fact in that category! Something about the subject just caught my eye and made me read the whole thing - and after reading it... Well, check this out:

It started out by promising an increase in length of the you-know-what of 1-2 inches. Okay, nothing new there - but further down, it claimed "increasing your size 10-20%!"

Riiiight... So if 1-2inches equals 10-20%, that means I have 10-20 inches as it is - so why the **** would I  need your product???
The future is here. It's just not widely distributed yet. (William Gibson)
