If you change the cover image path (Settings->Path Settings->Cover Path) to that of DVD Profiler, you will always have the same images as in Profiler available. What I have fixed is, that after you have done an XML import, the cover image display of the currently selected DVD is updated as well. This is really a rare use case which is only a minor annoyance. | | |

I think you misunderstood. If you change the cover image path (Settings->Path Settings->Cover Path) to that of DVD Profiler, you will always have the same images as in Profiler available.

Just open the XML file in a text editor and you will see, that it contains almost all data for each profile. But the XML is a text file and does not contain binary data like images. In Profiler (and also in my Viewer), the image is loaded from a specific folder using the profile ID (which is contained in the XML) as a reference. Quote:

| | Posted: | | | | I think it is very telling that the most respected professional HTPC constructor firm in the UK have now also abandoned DVD Profiler - Xlobby as an offering to any of their customer base.
It makes no sense to develop a new version of a product with no regard for how customers are actually using it. In this case, Invelos must have known that there was a huge number using it with Xlobby but they provided no installation option for a compatability mode. As for moving everything to the C drive so it will be over-written if I have to rebuild the system partition...
Is anyone writing tools to help us move to the MyMovies plg-in? |

How many HTPCs have to support multiple users each with a private collection of movies they don't want to share with the other users? I would have preferred this, and a few other options, during the installation process.
As for Xlobby... I can't even access the web site at present, and haven't been able to since yesterday. Even the DNS resolution of www.xlobby.com is failing me. I thought they were a collection of hobbyists, giving their spare time, rather than a commercial business like Invelos.
Yes, its telling that the main guy doesn't have the spare time to sort out a problem that isn't of his making, but I dare say he will - or find a working alternative: its summer and he probably has other things to do when he's not earning a living.
One thing seems very clear at present: this latest, inadequately considered, upgrade is hurting the Invelos' customer base now and will almost certainly impact Invelos' market share in future. Xlobby is less likely to suffer - its free, afterall. | | | | Last edited: by Edwardo |

Once is a while the content of the C partition ends up so horribly screwed that the operating system needs to be reinstalled – even recovery disks don’t work (Oh yes it does). This is very distressing and costly for people who aren’t slaves to their PC and do regular backups of their C partition. However, those of us who put all their data in a partition other than C don’t usually lose much. In short, it is a bad idea to put your data in amongst the operating system files.
I used to put DVD Profiler in a data partition because most of the files were data rather than application, the same way Pauls42 does. But with this latest release…
Maybe some balancing statements are needed here: I think DVD profiler is good software and still useful. It’s just that incompatibilities with major (albeit de facto) partner’s products has reduced the value of the latest release by about 75% for me – and I don’t think I’m alone on this, hence this whole thread. For a lot of people, a reason to buy it has just disappeared. How can that have been a smart business decision on Invelos’ part? |

I recall being prompted for a location in which to put the app but the location of the database folder was under My Documents, and I wasn’t prompted for a location. Is there a way of moving it described in documentation somewhere. If so, I’d be grateful for a pointer. I really don’t fancy having to reconfigure the operating system to accommodate one app that doesn’t do what I want.
Goodguy, my criticisms of DVD Profiler are not to do with the OS, I’m sorry I confused you. With due respect, I think it is your parents that are most in need of an upgrade: clearly the “Teach basic manners and politeness” plug-in was never fitted. However, I’m not fussy about where I get useful information, so if you can tell me how to move my profile and My Documents off C, I’d be grateful to you too (if it isn’t straying too far off topic). I can’t see how it can be done, as you suggest, with an API function.
For that matter, I’d be darn grateful to anyone who can give me a way of getting Xlobby and DVD Profiler working together as well as they did before this latest upgrade. Let’s face it, they used to work as if they were made for each other. But now… |
