Quote: Out of curiosity James, does this not create an 'update available' every week because your local differs from the online? I'll check that when I get home later. I don't often check the updates.
I can answer this....
It doesn't - if it did you would get an update available message for every profile where your local differed in any way from the online.
What it DOES do though is make accepting any cast update a little problematic - accepting a cast update will of course overwrite any local customization in that section. If I do end up accepting such an update, I have to go back into edit mode on that title and move people around again. Mike: That's way too hard, pal. | Posted: | | | | I have changed the order of the cast to match the top billings of the movie credits. Just lock your cast and you should not get any message about updates. If you do then you are assured that your work of rearranging the cast will not be lost. This is the same concept as priortizing your database of cast on a movie by movie bases. Yes it might take a lot of work to start with but just how badly do you want your cast to match the top billing of the movie??? Even if Ken did add this feature you would still have to go thru your entire cast database and just think of the work. Especially for those of us with several hundred titles in our database.
I hope this does not turn into another 20+ page thread of fighting. Let's all just try and get along. |

| Posted: | | | | I didn't see it mentioned (doesn't mean it wasn't) but you can always reorder the cast & crew in your own profiles to your liking simply by editing the profile and clicking the up/down arrows next to the cast/crew list.
Just don't submit it. |

Just don't submit it. You can also drag each name in the cast list up or down by holding down the left side button on your mouse which is a bit quicker on really long lists - a feature I wasn't aware of until last night |

So, how about an opportunity to prioritize individual cast members, and then when we do a report, we can select to do it with the highest prioritized cast-members listed first?
My guess is that these priorities should probably be kept local, but I would think that I'm not the only one that would like Winona Ryder to be listed as the second cast-member in the report for The Darwin Awards, even though she's quite a long way down on the credits... I don't think it's practicable to resort the cast locally - You'd loose the update feature... I'm wondering why the opening credits were removed from the "Contribution Rules" - in former days we listed the cast credited along in the opening credits first (they are the VIPs for this and only this film) and all additional cast from the end credits. - This worked perfectly in nearly each film... I don't think it's practicable to resort the cast locally - You'd loose the update feature... No you wouldn't! Consider this: Let's take The Darwin Awards as an example again. What would the problem be in adding a small checkbox to the window where the rolename is entered? It could be called "Top Bill" or "List first in reports" or something like that. Then, for Winona Ryder, you could check that box, and then, when you run a report, Winona would be listed first in the cast-section on the report. The checkbox is kept local, so which part exactly would you loose from the update-feature by doing this? | | | The future is here. It's just not widely distributed yet. (William Gibson) |

| Posted: | | | | Under the current version, there is no checkbox for Top Bill thus the problem with losing the update feature if you manually reorder your cast (which would happen anyways if such a checkbox was added). |

What in the hell is going on in you Avatar? Is it from a film? If so, what film? Not from a film. That is me squeezing into a local cave. The entrance to it has been modified to keep most people out by installing this wierd metal box device, but as you can see it is possible to get in anyway. It is not a particularly interesting cave anyway since it has long ago been damaged - probably because it is pretty close to a state university campus. |

AA In former days, before Rules, AI, there was no Rule and data came from wherever and in whatever form users presented. I doubt seriously if in those days that anyone was using the film credits, I wasn't. The reasons for using the end credits should be obvious, where are the Roles at usually. As to your reference to VIPs, who is it that defines VIPs, have you ever been to a Broadway PLAY, if not I will refer to you to Mame and many of the Jerry Lewis films, in which Cast and Roles are handled in the much the same fashion as a stage production. "headliners" are introduced and "credited" LAST. This is something that is a local issue ONLY, you can do whatever you want, and apply YOUR particular definition to VIPs to your data. You can have your data do whatever you want and when you upload your collection all the world will get to see the data the way YOU want it. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!!
