I noticed though, that out of the first 10 responses to your message, nearly half were in response to one that was a potshot at Skip. Seems to me that for all the bitching about acrimony and attitudes and such that somebody always starts the ball rolling by blaming Skip (or me) for not going with the flow.
It's the rude, bullying attitude. While you and Skip continue to present yourself as such, you can expect to encounter the lack of respect that people will show you. It's no different than a face-to-face interaction. If you and Skip acted in person as you do here, I would have grave concerns for your personal safety. It's simple: rude bullying = lack of respect. It's funny how people like that always think that everyone else is out of step. | | | Last edited: by johnd |

Has it occurred to you that the perception of you and others is precisely the same, which is one reason why I deliberately try NOT to infer anything from anything a user says. Such judgements about people of which I have limited knowledge are almost guaranteed to be wrong and therefore attempting to pass judgement is a useless exercise. You know nothing bout me, nothing about what drives me with respect to this program, yet you are qualified to sit in judgement...I think NOT, sir. I suggest that before you worry about my behavior or anyone else's you look to YOURSELF first. Trust me if I were to deal with YOU the way you deal with me and make the comments that you believe yourself (incorrectly) qualified to make , you wouldn't like it ONE little bit. So, I repeat look to your own behavior FIRST and the, frankly rather disgusting attitude you bring here. Remeber there are multiple sides to everything and you don't have the benefit of even seing all of ONE side, let alone the whole picture.

Because I know if I say my opinion, some of the users will jump on me with insults and worse. I want to take a part in this community, but only if these persons stops with the insults. Couldn't agree more. I wish I could post some comments or opinions more often, but as it is the case, I no longer feel inclined to do so. The neverending battles leave a sour after taste. Perhaps it's just me, but I feel there is a constant fear of the rules being threatened or the database in danger of being destroyed. I don't see why, if there is a problem we (I'd like to include myself) encounter, be 'The Birds' or the SRP, the rules can be fixed in order to adequate the inconsistencies, instead of somehow trying to twist it so it can conform to the rules. Some of you may not like what I'm about to say, just remember it is not attack but an opinion. As I understand it, some of you had input into the rules and wrote the whole thing. I think this was a huge mistake. But I don't blame you, I can understand you were the creators of the rules, thus are trying to protect your work, just like any writer takes pride in protecting their own work. However, at doing so, it seems the focus has been lost. The rules are becoming a holy gospel that cannot be touched. As a result, the contribution threads are no longer civil, but fanatical, truly. And the overall feel is mean-spirited, especially for newcomers. | | | Funny, these cookies don't taste anything like Girl Scouts.

I agree totally. And more and more contributors will probably stop contributing, as I did. | | | Images from movies |

Exactly. There are a large number (approx. 50 or so that I know of and am still in touch with, probably more that I do not know of) that no longer participate in these forums. They were around several years ago, but now no longer post due to the attitude of several people. Skip is the one specifically mentioned, though there are others. These people contributed a lot to DVDProfiler and the forums, and their loss is a concern. While I am still in touch with these people in another forum, many have stated that they will never participate in the forums again, regardless of moderation. God knows how many people have never posted due to this problem, or have posted once and never come back. Skip particularly likes to put down new participants, and actually gloats over it. |

| Posted: | | | | The way people response in this particular thread tells me a lot....
I have adopted the motto "If you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything at all" in the past few months. I still get carried away sometimes, but I am trying... Skip I know about the relatively large number of people you, specifically, have driven from these forums, and how you make newcomers feel particularly unwelcome. You, specifically, have blighted this forum. It is hard to believe how large the negative effect that you, specifically, have had on this forum. Since you have been told by many people time after time about this, I can only presume that you have specifically set out, for you own reasons, to make coming here as unpleasant as possible. Edit: I've just been asked "Why do you bother? Skip will never change, since this is his life. He has nothing else. He wont go away." I guess she is right. So many people complain about Skip here, but refuse to actually do anything about it. I thought moderation might bring him under control, but it seems like nothing is happening in that respect, so he still has free reign to drive people away. | | | Last edited: by johnd |

God, I hope there will be some moderators here soon. I can only agree with you. | | | Complete list of Common Names • A good point for starting with Headshots (and v11.1) |

Quote: Just for the record, I can say that it gets awful hard to resist nasty remarks when you've been on the receiving end for as long as we have been. I have also noticed that people seem to have a very large inability to understand sarcasm and cynicism in a post, immediately jumping to the "he's attacking me" response mode. A sarcastic response or comment is not an attack.
I agree with that. But with this lousy yellow faces no one can really express how a comentary is to be understood: I miss the good old time where emoticons (character based) were expressive and clear. I loved the <eg>, <veg> and <gd&r> to express how a commentary is meant... Another topic I think to feel here is, that foreign - not native english speakers/writers, like myself - are insulted for their statements before thinking what they could have wanted to express. - I know that my english is limited, I don't need someone to tell me about it, or even worse being judged by my language instead of the content of my writing... And what makes you and Rifter think I was posting about you?
Rifter claims that there is a post about you, but I don't see a 'Skip' anywhere.
Why do you think this is all about you?
pdf Paul, Anyone who has been on these forums for over a day knows implied attacks when they see them. Yes, I didn't see you mention anyone by name, but immediately I knew who you were talking about. I often wonder if there should be an age or IQ minimum requirement for forums. |

| Posted: | | | | I think it might be best for those who wish to resort to personal attacks do so via personal messages. I enjoy gentle teasing and satire but some of the commentary has crossed the line. The mean-spirited atmosphere is increasing and makes me very uncomfortable. Please stop. | | | Last edited: by Kathy |

I often wonder if there should be an age or IQ minimum requirement for forums. I agree that anyone with the slightest time on these forums knew exactly who was being referred to. However, that does not detract from the validity of the statement in the least. Quoting pdf256: Quote:
If the biggest poster would act like an adult this would be a far better place.
But I guess that to fling insults into a thread and then follow it with a complaint that "others have no logic in their claims, so they must resort to insults" is the height of internet debate.
