Hello,

i also prefer HD-coverscans without  border. IMHO the border don't provide any additional information.

Furtherwise the quality of scans may be better by scanning only the cover itself, extracted from case. Most scanners provide only sharp scans, if the document directly contact the glass surface of scanner, without the transparent foil of the case between.

I therefore contribute german HD DVD's with coverscans without border.

But in any case, Ken should point the way  .

Additionally, the database has built up a significant preponderance of HD titles with the banner included.

I'm happy to know this has been taken into consideration.

I believe Ken answered your question though not directly. Keep the banner. If you want it otherwise, keep it locally.

I think a direct answer (rule) is required though.

Whilst it is early days of HD and BR it should be determined now, to save wasted time scanning what could be deemed incorrect at a later date.

Rule option 1 - HD/BR Scans must include border
Rule option 2 - HD/BR scans must not include border

Perhaps someone who this is affecting should start a poll to guide Ken/Gerri towards setting a rule which reflects users preferences?

Richie:

A poll WAS taken. It is for ken to answer, he can answer by Rule and I am sure he will. But his answer is Option 1. Simple. You can argue it you can whine about it, but he has spoken. And if you don't like it that way you can do it local. now before someone decides to say Skip what about the Cover Thread? I am trying to comprehend that, i am not as i have said complaining about it or whining about it. O nce I completely grasp it I will either follow the Rule or i won't, and if I don't guess what, I will keep  my data locally....just like I am telling you to do, richie.

As to the poll, I forgot just how many Al Gore's we have here. I want a recount, and another one, and some more and another one.

Border? What are you talking about? This scan from the Bourne example was of the whole freaking case! IMO totally unacceptable and would never even be considered for a DVD scan. What makes HD DVD any different? I'm just puzzled by this strange inconsistency for no apparent reason other than that it says HD DVD on the box. So what, we already have a media type in the profile.

Patsa has a point - it seems that if it's the first image submitted for a profile, or if it's a new submission, then any old rubbish is accepted. The screeners only seem to take quality into account when replacing images.

Not owning the HD DVD title in question, I don't have anything to compare to...but, I would have to go with the existing scan. The colors are more natural, it is sharper and has the HD DVD banner (although the contributor could have done a better job by cropping out the case on the right and bottom). The new contributed image looks much too blue, too soft and is sans banner. This, of course, is just my subjective opinion .

Bear in mind that although you may see a large amount of positive votes, we have a significant group of users who rubber stamp their votes, voting yes to anything and everything.  This is also considered during evaluation.

That's interesting to read! Do you have some means of scoring the voting behavior of users ? E.g. users that had a lot of votes inconsistent with the final decision (Yes for declines, No for accepted) get a lower score and therefore their future votes are less trustworthy ? Maybe weighted votes...
Can imagine that that would help the screeners a lot.

We all know ypur personal opinion Skip, you must not tell us about it again and again

The point is, as Patsa already said... most of the scans are with the COMPLETE case and even parts of the scanner cap!
I COULD live with scans that contain the HD DVD/Blu-Ray Border on TOP, but not with such submitted submited rubish!

The Matrix HD DVD Scan which was posted by ninehours is very fine! Though, I personally don't see any reason why such a banner should be included, I COULD accept this, if Ken says officially "Include banners"!

What I want is a clear statement from Ken, as a post in this Forum or as a note in the Contribution Rules, whether Logo Headers should be included or not! This is simple, and in my opinion, not much to ask for!

Scans must meet the threshold of significant improvement.  Additionally, the database has built up a significant preponderance of HD titles with the banner included.

I think that is your answer .

That is a fact, and not a clear statement!

A clear statment is: "Scan HD Discs with media banner!" or "Scan HD Discs without media banner!"

I think that is your answer .

I don't think so! I'd like to see a clear statement about what's acceptable and what's preferable. The statement about the significant improvement is a clear guidance. The rest is just an observation.

I think he has answered, Rho, in avery clear manner. Falcon everybody agrees that the cases don't scan very well, but one of us has created somewhere around here, hi-res banners which can be pasted to a cover, giving a much better appearance.

im glad i got involved in this, i don't even own HD or BR titles

Skip, let Ken answer with an affirmative or not, don't talk for him, he is active in the forums and I am sure he will answer to provide his preference.

option 1 - HD/BR Scans must include border
option 2 - HD/BR scans must not include border

He already did, richie. He can choose to be even clearer if he wishes, he can modify the rules for it if he wishes, I am not stopping him. But he has provided an answer that is clear, I understand it and some others do as well.
