@Doc, let me make this very simple, such a change as you propose would end my Contributions completely. I have far too much time invested to watch it get trashed just because. And you don't want to know how much time i am talking about, but i will say no one else is EVEN close.

IMO The overview should be the plain text representation of the overview on the cover. No bold, no all caps, no footnotes just plain text. The rules should be changed accordingly. I fully agree. No ticks, no formatting. Keep it just plain text. | | | Matthias |

| Posted: | | | | Sure a lot of work has gone into adding these (as I see them) strange "ticks". But basically saying we do not want improvement because we are lazy probably isn't the way to go. Some meassures would probably have to be taken in order to avoid flooding the contribution system though - there are several options, for example automatically accept the first upload where the only change is removing ticks and adding formatting matching the previous ticks. Add the option to allow displaying the text with formatting, as plain text, or with ticks instead of formatting. Those opposing the change can then set it to use the ticks and simply ignore it completely except for the times where they need to upload new or corrected overviews, but then adding the formatting is probably not the most timeconsuming part anyway. | | | Regards Lars |

| Posted: | | | | Now we are beginning to get into the right territory. The Rules tell us what to do. For thoise users who want to do it some other way, they are free to locally, after all the Online is only the starting place for all of us to build our own customized database, it is not going to be a pre-packaged one size fits ALL database, there are too many of us, with too many different ideas. IF this could be accomodated by a preference setting, which would seems doubtful (at least easily), then that would be great.

Skip This is the feature request forum not the contribution forum, so obviously the rules need to be adjusted if new features become available (just like it happened with the credited as feature). With regards to accomodating the mentioned preference setting I wouldn't as much call it easy as extremely easy. Besides the code needed to add the setting to the preference dialog (which would be pretty trivial) I would be surprised if someone spend more than 10 lines of code to implement this. | | | Regards Lars |

Until we get a program change to add bold, italic and/or underlining, it makes no sense to all of sudden now start doing Overviews differently than we've been doing them for a long, long time. | | | Hal |

In my local database, I already do this using an HTML "Overview" replacement window so I can get bold & italic text in overviews. Editing is a bit time consuming as I have to type in all the formatting tags & so I'm only about a third of the way through my DB. Obviously I have to take care not to contribute my versions & I keep those parts of the profile locked to avoid them being overwritten. But it does look nice! | | | Chris | | | Last edited: by Mole |

| Posted: | | | | Me too. But it's possible to use the HTML tags in the overview. All you have to do is create a new HTML window with the overview, eg.: Quote: <HTML> <HEAD> </HEAD> <BODY> <DP NAME="OVERVIEW"> </BODY> </HTML>
Now you'll see the tags (<b></b> for bold, <i></i> for italic, <u></u> for underlined etc.) you've added to the overview. Take a look: | | | Deutsches DVD Profiler Forum: www.dvdprofiler-forum.de |

| Posted: | | | | Yup, that's the bunny! I've got a few lines of Style formatting in the HEAD section so the window matches the rest of my layout. | | | Chris | | | Last edited: by Mole |
