Skip Well, you did make a false claim in order to discredit IMDB, and then linked to them in direct contradiction to their licensing terms. I think you really shouldn't be calling foul of being called out on it. Prior to purchasing DVD Profiler, I compared a number of different product. One (I forget its name) did exactly as Davideo suggested. I was very impressed with the software (more so than DVD Profiler at the time), but DVD Profiler won on one very simple fact - it's data was head and shoulders above everything else. I'm absolutely positive that DVD Profiler has exactly the right idea in terms of a central database. Stuart | | | This is a sig... ... ... yay...
Don't understand? Maybe DVDProfilerWiki.org does! |

I haven't really tried others but from what I have seen when browsing around that is what most others do. Mainly it's a combination of IMDb, Amazon.com and a few others. I don't think a program that is purey based on data entry by the user would have any chance. I guess I was lucky that DVD Profiler was pretty much the first one I found at the time. | | | Achim [諾亞信; Ya-Shin//Nuo], a German in Taiwan. Registered: May 29, 2000 (at InterVocative) |

Skip I'm probably one of those people, yet I can fully understand where you're coming from with this comment. We were admittedly being very nitpicky in your choice of words and pouncing on your use of the word "fact". That said, the only reason I personally did so was your refusal to acknowledge goodguy's point, and even attempted to defend your own by the use of even more exaggerations. What's so wrong with admitting to having exaggerated? Everyone uses hyperbole once in a while to get a point across, so there's really no reason to get defensive when called on it. Just thought I'd explain my reasons for being so semantic. KM | | | Tags, tags, bo bags, banana fana fo fags, mi my mo mags, TAGS! Dolly's not alone. You can also clone profiles. | Posted: | | | | skipnet50 wasn't the only one who bashed IMDb in this thread; he wasn't even the first one. While I don't like these sorts of comments, I'm also pretty sure that IMDb doesn't need me to jump to their rescue.
Furthermore, whatever opinion someone may have about the usefulness of IMDb is of no relevance to the fact that both the Invelos Contribution Rules and the IMDb license terms don't allow automated import of data from IMDb into DVD Profiler.
The reason I replied to skipnet50's post and not the other ones should be pretty clear:
Trying to make a point by linking to the IMDb license terms, combined with the all-caps advise to read them very carefully, implies, at least to me, that the poster acknowledges the validity of those terms. If the same poster then chooses to violate said terms in the very next sentence, I find that noteworthy.
And I find it noteworthy both in itself and in relation to the topic at hand, because it may actually encourage someone, who started this thread unaware of Contribution Rules and IMDb license terms, to follow the given example and deliberately ignore them. | | | Matthias |

That is exactly what I thought you were doing. I can see how it might bug Skip to have this 'inconsistency' pointed out, but I can't see it as being offensive enough to warrant a negative vote...but that's just me. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. I don't dare to shorten the quote in such a thread ;-) ... I think most of us understood your posting. But I think, that sarcasm - even at its best - isn't understood and/or tolerated by some persons here around. --- And those who tried to discredit the voting system with arguments like Quote: Interesting concept, but I predict that it will fall out of control, as there are those whose hatred is so great and sick that they will jump on anything, not unlike several users whom I see bringing their personal agendas to the voting system . Abuse of it will be rampant. are tempted to abuse it AA | | | Complete list of Common Names • A good point for starting with Headshots (and v11.1) | | | Last edited: by AiAustria |
