Definite yes for Change to manual.

Editing disc IDs seems more iffy to me, but I guess it would be Ok as long as it was strictly for local use, so you couldn't upload such an entry.

could totally use this now... I want to keep track of HD-DVD exclusives that I will want when they eventually come out in blu-ray... would like to download hd-dvd profile, change to manual, create blu-ray... and hopefully at some point change to a legit upc code all without removing from my database

Unless I'm missing something, why not just create a tag for Blu-ray wants, tag the appropriate HD-DVD titles -- and when they finally come out on Blue-Ray just edit the profile to change the UPC and media from the HD-DVD to Blue-Ray - and not bother with the manual profile step?  Or aren't you available to change format from HD-DVD to blu-ray?
