yeh I've been away for a while. New computer required new install of profiler

I don't care who's  awhat'sit is coding. DVD profler is a superior product to Collectorz. DVDP should have an import from collectorz to DVDP

And

Should have CD and whatever more capability, then sooner or later some big wastful corp will buy them out ond they will be kagillionaires.

Because simply DVDP is better.
I think import from CollectorZ would be a bad idea. They already import DVDPro XML, thereby offering free access to DVDPro database - at least a snapshot for those profiles. Now if there were an import to DVDPro, it would only bring UPC (already available) and personal information (notes, etc). So, one could sit in an export-import-export-import loop and suck the DVDPro database on over to CollectorZ.

I don't think so ...    (pouring two classes of Chianti ...)

I'm almost finished with my XML import plugin. (I won't release it yet because of a bug in the API). But was thinking of adding support for collectorz as well. I would probably just limit it to importing personal information though, for the reasons that Mediadogg mentions.

oh yeah, I forgot you were working on that. didn't mean to belittle the effort, but I had considered a CollectorZ import as well, and decided against it for the reasons I gave. Their XML format is way different from DVDPro and the personal info is organized differently. Do what you want, but it seems kind of deterimental to DVDPro IMHO. But maybe not - I guess if somebody wanted to pump data from DVDPro to there, all they need to do is import UPC list, export to XML and import to CollectorZ and upload to their database. Kind of unfortunate, but I guess Ken must have considered that before allowing XML export.

Didn't take it as belittlement at all.

I guess I'm looking at it a little differently though, I agree that I won't try to import Collectorz's entire profile. I'm just thinking about a user who wants to switch from Collectorz to DVDP, they might be hesitate if they have to re-enter all there purchase data, etc. Would probably just create a blank profile with the UPC number provided and their personal data. The rest they can download from IVS. Hopefully attracting new customers.

I think a bigger worry is not that they will take DVDp profiles to populate their database, but take there internet scrapped profiles and populate this database.

Does Collectorz store or use UPC at all?
If it does, maybe you could create a plugin that takes only that info (and the personal info if that's there too) and creates a download list of profiles similar to the ImportUPC plugin - so none of the cast & crew etc. comes from the Collectorz program, all of that comes from our database.

That is my plan exactly. Sorry, I guess I wasn't being clear.
