I've got a dual core processor 6600 @ 2.4 GHz, 4 GB RAM, NVidia GeForce 7600 GT running XP Profession Media Center. Can you determine from that one HD-DVD that your NVidia 7600 GT supports HDCP & hi def play back? I had a 7600 G S that didn't support HDCP. A year later when i bought my HD/BD combo drive i had to get a newer card (8500 GT) to get hi def playback. | | | Bad movie? You're soaking in it! |

However, I bought the machine direct from HP with the HD DVD drive as part of the package. Now, maybe it's naive of me to think so, but wouldn't they have made sure that the machine that they put that drive into would be able to do hi-def playback. Yeah, that is pretty naive of me, now that Ithink about it. Based on NewEnglander's post, however, I'm hoping I'm OK. | | | Hal |

| Posted: | | | | My drive came with PowerDVD. When i first dropped an HD-DVD movie in the drive it quickly told me the best i was going to get standard def (480p i think) and it wasn't going to give me that till i switched from the DVI output port to the analog. Fortunately my monitor supported both and i connected the analog cable between the card and monitor (w/o removing the digital/DVI cable) But it still wouldn't play till i disconnected the DVI cable. Big Hollywood Brother was determined not to let me steal that movie. You would like to think they would have set you up to handle hi-def. The other question would be did the monitor come with the computer and if not how old is it. I think it plays a part in the HDCP/hi-def scheme and older ones may not play. PowerDVDs owner (Cyberlink) has a tool you can run against your system to check HD compatibility | | | Bad movie? You're soaking in it! |

| Posted: | | | | I had a similar problem, too. What it came down to for me, is that the dual-link DVI connection I was using isn't actually set up to support HDCP or summat like that, so in the end I started using AnyDVD to leap that particular hurdle. |

Edit: I believe it's the same model as the one at Best Buy, but it's $149.99 at Amazon. Just ordered one of these. Hope it's as simple as replacing my HD DVD drive with this one. | | | Hal | | | Last edited: by hal9g |

Then you could abuse the HD-DVD with CD related reading/writing and save the new one for "important" stuff. | | | Bad movie? You're soaking in it! |

Hope it's as simple as replacing my HD DVD drive with this one. Instaslled mine yesterday, was a breeze. BTW, it comes with SPHE Blu-ray North America Trailer/Clip Reel 2007 (Vol. 6) Now, I must find the first 5 volumes | | | Signature banned: Reason out of date... |

Anybody interested in buying a very slightly used HD DVD drive? | | | Hal | | | Last edited: by hal9g |

| Posted: | | | | I wonder if the Sony drive would work in my Apple with OS X. (It should work within the Windows VM but I don't want to limit myself to that...). Maybe I should contact Sony customer support... (good luck with that ) | | | Achim [諾亞信; Ya-Shin//Nuo], a German in Taiwan. Registered: May 29, 2000 (at InterVocative) |
