| Posted: | | | | We have the mish-mash in the UK too. In fact even the same studio will sometimes dabble with both slims and keeps; I can't say it would influence my own buying habits, and I certainly can't speak for nearly all Brits.
Another point I didn't make before, is that concerning commonality. With SD, the most common type is of course the single keep, which is also how we enter all the other variations, except for Thinpak which is the single exception; it's not a thinned-down keep, it's slightly different in certain ways. Interestingly, there IS a thin SD Keep which is the same as the regular in all ways but width. The only ones I have are in the last couple of Felicity box sets from R1.
Translate this into the HD case types, and the common/standard type is without a doubt, HD Slim. By the same token, all nonspecific variants (i.e. multidisc slims) belong to that, where the HD Keep is the fundamentally different type with a separate specific entry in the case type field. |

| Posted: | | | | Actually I must say I'm kind of guilty of that myself. I've never full-on refused to buy a movie I wanted due to case type, but I have occasionally imported from somewhere at extra cost to avoid the domestic snapper or a jewel release (first Matrix in particular!) | | | Last edited: by Nadja |

The argument you want to remove is the one that is exactly right: For profiling purposes anything that is not a Slim Case is a Keep Case, and a Slim Case is a case that has a smaller width than a SD case. So what you call a "Multidisc HD Slim" in the other thread is a Keep Case. Problem solved.
I have read these 3 sentences a number of times and they make absolutely no sense to me at all. What is there so hard to understand, Paul ? I made three statements: 1. A "HD Slim Case" is a case that has a smaller width than a SD case 2. In the Blu-ray profiles we enter anything that is not a HD Slim Case as a HD Keep Case 3. What Nadja called a "Multidisc HD Slim" in the contribution discussion thread should be entered as a HD Keep Case. Why ? See 2. Quoting pauls42: Quote:

For me this differentiation is extremely important because the case type influences my buying decision for a Blu-ray release. Unfortunately in Germany we have a mishmash of case types (mostly slims but for some reason Fox and a few others use the Keep cases) and I like the Slim Cases much better. So I oppose this proposal 100% and I can guarantee you that nearly every other German user will see it the same way.
So if you wanted a film but the case was 'wrong' you would actually not buy the film? Amazing.
You haven't thought of buying a few empty cases to put your discs in? No, that is not true. If the case was 'wrong' (meaning it has a Keep Case) I would not abstain from buying the film, but I would simply import it from the US. Since I watch movies with the original language track anyway, it doesn't make much difference to me. Yes, I have thought about buying empty cases. Have you ever tried it, Nadja ? The covers from the Keep Cases simply do not fit into Slim Cases unless you cut them off, and I simply don't want to do this. Btw., 8ball, I'm not surprised that someone from a country where the is no mishmash in Blu-ray case type doesn't understand my attitude. That is because you have never seen how butt ugly a mix of Slims and Keep Cases looks on your shelf. I know quite a lot of European collectors who share my opinion about this. I have to admit that in fact I do have some Keep Case releases im my collection. That is because I got them so dirt cheap I couldn't resist. But as I said: It doesn't look good on the shelf. | | | Michael | | | Last edited: by TigiHof |

Well, I for one, am not at all concerned about how a certain case might look on my shelf as I don't sit around all day staring at my shelfs thinking that that just doesn't look good. I'd rather be watching the films . But, to each his own . | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |

Maybe that's how you've done German profiles, but in roughly 400 HD/BD profiles from the US and UK (where most of the HD effort is being put in), I've never seen that being done before this week. Why on earth would I want to try it? I don't care what the covers look like on the shelf. | | | Paul |

If you don't care about what case a Blu-ray release comes in, I guess you should leave the discussion about Profiler HD case options up to users who who actually do care. | | | Michael |

You think that caring about the size of the cases on the shelf is the only criteria to identify someone who wants the submissions to be straightforward to the database?? ??? Perhaps your English isn't very good. I said I didn't care what the cover looked like on a shelf. Your comment was patronising and rude!!! | | | Paul | | | Last edited: by pauls42 |
