| Posted: | | | | When you say "have the filters window visible I assume you mean so it is permanently open so I can see a list of dvd's on the left pane and my filters in a pane on the right ? If that is possible then how do I do it ? The only way I can see is a filters tab I have to click to view |

That means you can hold the left (corrected: thanks DJ) mouse button down on the tab and move it around. You will get a highlighting cue as to how the docked window will appear. When you see the style you like, let go of the button and the window will dock. Takes a little practice, but you'll get the hang of it ... You can adjust it so that the clear filters and and load icons are visible at the bottom of the window. Just a couple of clicks and you can control the contents of the collection window. I have several handy filters saved, such as BluRay, HD DVD, etc. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. Hey, new product!!! | Posted: | | | | OK thanks. That is much better although what would be perfect would be if one of the tabs of the filter pane was "Saved Filter Sets". That way I would have my personal filters permantently on view. |

| Posted: | | | | OK I saw that. When you click that you are shown a list of your personal filters. What I am saying is it would be easier to have a tab which contained all my filters which are permanently on view then all I could switch between filters quickly and effortlessly.
In fact the idea of running a filter by loading a text file seems to me against the normal database convention where one selects a filter title. |

| Posted: | | | | It seems to me it would take no extra space at all. If you have the filter on view then you have to have one tab showing so it might well be your personal filter sets. Something like this |

| Posted: | | | | I was replying to Kulju's post. btw I could never have my filter window that small. Constantly clicking the arrows to access the other tabs would drive me insane! |

btw I could never have my filter window that small. Constantly clicking the arrows to access the other tabs would drive me insane! You know, what he wants is almost already there ... I was playing around with custom toolbars and command files. You can get sooooooo close. Notice that the clear filters icon can be dragged onto a custom toolbar. So can Load Set and Save Set, for flags. You can also drag the Run Command File onto a custom toolbar. I created a command file called BluRay.txt with the command 'LoadFilterSet "BluRay"', which works great, except you can't pass the command file name to the icon. But at least you can create an icon that with one click will open a window to a bunch of command files. All you need is one command file per filter set. With this, you dont need to artificially reposition the Filters tab. Procedure: (1) Right click in the menu area, click "customize" (2) You can optionally create a new toolbar by clinking "new ..." (3) To get the icon, click the Commands tab, click File, then scroll the lsit of commands to Run Command File (4) Drag the command to whatever toolbar you want it to be in. (5) Before you close the customization window, Right Click on the toolbar item you just created (defaults to text). You can then customize the new toolbar item, icluding making the item have an image - but I don't know how to select the image yet. (6) After closing the customization dialog, you can now click the toolbar item/icon and the command file window will pop up. If you have prepared files to run your filters, just click it, and the filter will be applied. Looks like a lot of steps, but it is easy, and when you are done, you are very close to what the poster wanted. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. | Posted: | | | | OK I got up to the bit where you click on the new toolbar icon and a file selection window opens. But that window asks for a text file. What do you mean by "prepare your files to run filters ?" |

| Posted: | | | | Cheers MD! I never thought of using a command file for each filter set. I'll have a play about when I get time but I think this will be a good workaround, at least it cuts out 1 step anyway Quoting delboy007: Quote: OK I got up to the bit where you click on the new toolbar icon and a file selection window opens. Quoting Mediadogg: Quote: [...] I created a command file called BluRay.txt with the command 'LoadFilterSet "BluRay"' [...] I'll clarify this part of MD's post as you're unsure of how to use command files. Command files are simple txt files that contain commands that Profiler will run in sequence (useful for doing a backup and online sync (etc) in one go). In this case you'll be creating a command file for each of the filter sets you want to load regularly. So if you have a filter set called 'Last watched' for example, you would create a txt file called Last Watched.txt. In that txt file type the line LoadFilterSet "Last watched". Place this txt file in the filters (I think) folder in your MyDocs DVDP folder. Repeat this for your other regularly used filter sets. Then when you click your newly created 'Run Command File' button you'll get a dialog listing all your command files OR to look at it another way, listing all your filter sets. Obviously this is only helpful to you if you don't want your filters window displayed all the time as it's just the same as clicking the load filter set button in the filters window |

Good teamwork. One correction: the commands don't go in the filters folder. They go in \Documents\DVD Profiler. To be sure, just click on Run Command and see where it opens up. The other point is that the poster wanted a toolbar icon. Since there is no "Apply Filter" icon that you can drag and drop, this technique allows you to synthesize one by dragging and dropping the Run Command icon instead. | | | Thanks for your support. | Posted: | | | | Thanks for all your help but it seems extraordinary to me that users are having to find such elaborate workarounds for what should be a simple one click facility built into the program.
I have found that I really like having the filter windows open permanently anyway but I still think it would be a big improvement to have a "personal filters" tab like I have shown in my graphic. Surely when all you want to do is apply a filter you shouldn't have to mess around with text or any other kind of file. Just click the filter name and all done with one click. |

I think we also thought you needed a workaround, which is not mutually exclusive with getting your recommended solution. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here.
