| Posted: | | | | Amazing Stuff Ken - really looking forward to all of these (except mobile... because well.... i have an iPhone)
I would think the release order should be:
Mobile (since you gave the timeframe) DPO Plus iPhone 3.6
I say this because we just had a software refresh a few months ago, and I think most people were expecting DPOP before that... plus I'm sure the additional revenue stream items would need to come first...
As far as pricing the iPhone app... I see no reason why it shouldn't be the same price as the WinMo version...
oh and... if you need iPhone beta testers... count me in. | | | -JoN |

The only way many of the apps survive without a larger price and/or subscription fee is that the average use period for each user is very short, even for paid apps. It's a risk to launch with a one-time fee. If the users keep using it for year after year, the server costs can easily surpass the original income. But, I believe a subscription fee is the kiss of death in the iPhone market. Very likely it will launch with a nominal one-time fee (likely less than mobile), and we will monitor the situation closely. | | | Invelos Software, Inc. Representative |

| Posted: | | | | One pricing model is to provide free updates of point releases but charge for major (full point) releases. But the app store doesn't allow for multiple versions that I'm aware of so that would annoy users having the app but not wanting to upgrade, always seeing that (1) on the App Store icon....
Another option would be to charge a larger fee for the initial download but smaller fees for any updates. But again, I haven't seen evidence of the app store supporting this. Pity because it would provide a continual trickle of funds.
Personally, I fully plan on having the DVDP iPhone icon on my first page and a permanent fingerprint over it. |

| Posted: | | | | Just read your plan on charging less for the iPhone app than mobile. Apple is already going to cut your left foot off by taking 30% of the take, no point in cutting your right foot off too. | | | Last edited: by Dr. Killpatient |

| Posted: | | | | As far as I am informed, you can't charge for upgrades in the Appstore. However, there is no problem in having multiple versions like a light and a Pro version if that's what you mean? | | | DVD Profiler på Dansk |

| Posted: | | | | By the way, it would be cool if you made a (nearly) free version for the iPhone that could just work as a collection viewer. Then your friends could keep up to date on the latest arrivals in your collection. | | | DVD Profiler på Dansk |

It would also allow for two classes of users, those who only want to view their collection (preventing against purchasing duplicates) and those who want to update their collection. iDVDP and iDVDP Pro for example. | | | Last edited: by Dr. Killpatient |

Do we have to pay for this to see any kind of improvement over the current situation or do you (hopefully) plan to improve the standard online collection view too. It's desperately in need of: a) working boxset trees b) option to use original title instead of local title I also somewhat agree with Sugarjoe. While it might not be as rewarding and more challenging the priority shouldn't be releasing 3.6 with another set of new things but instead fixing the urgent horrible problems with the current rule set and data fields. Have you even noticed that long-time users (some among the top contributors) are leaving the ship!? This is not good. The recent "discussions" (battles would be more fitting) are worse than ever before and lead absolutely nowhere because the community needs you (or someone representing you) to enforce certain things and clear things up. | | | - Jan |

I agree with you and Sugarjoe. I think we have some major forum problems that need addressing. The reputation system is a placebo at this point. It could use some real teeth! The addition of letting users comment as to why they're voting negatively would help. The current negative feedback levels still allow for a user to hurl epithets for several days before being silenced even for just 24 hours. Ken has taken a step today with a very important issue by posting here. A few more fine points clarified by Ken would help. If he could start doing them in real time, as he did today, things will go well. Back to Ken's topic: I'm very happy to see the iPhone app coming! My PDA is dying and while I covet an iPhone, I came thisclose to buying a new PDA on Friday because I didn't want to give up DVDP Mobile. Now I can get an iPhone. yay! | | | ...James

| Posted: | | | | I think that these changes sound good & I await the 3.6 details in due course I do however agree with others who feel that existing problems on the forums & with the rules should also be addressed. |

| Posted: | | | | Looking forward to the new mobile version the most. Can't wait for the proposed changes to be posted Major for me would be support for tags, multiple DBs and the ability to add a watched event to an ordered profile (although the last one is made obsolete if multiple DBs are added. And I hope the iphone version works out for you! |
