While it is in genre at least you can filter on it. Currently yes, this is true. And I think everyone can agree we'd hate to lose that ability. Although I'm sure since anything on this board requires some type of program change, that the ability to filter on Television wouldn't be lost regardless of what was implemented (not saying that anything will be ) and would only be part of the change. | | | "The perfect is the enemy of the good." - Voltaire |

If it's a TV show or episode, it should already have the "Television" label in the rating field, so Television in the genre is redundant.
Not all localities have separate ratings for television and film. Therefore we can't use rating information to say which is television and which is film. |

| Posted: | | | | The biggest problem with "Television" in the genre field is that it's only sporadically included. I can't filter on it, without going through and checking all the profiles and adding Television where appropriate. That's one reason I use tags for Television. The other is that I can use child-tags under that to specify what type of television. Sketch, series, miniseries, etc. I've even got a child-tag for "serials". I know they're not television, but for the practical purpose of filtering to select something to watch, they serve the same purpose for me.
As for "Television" in the ratings section, that isn't true for some (?most?) countries. Australia's rating system is uniform (makes no distinction). The same system is even used for video games, albeit without an R18+ rating available.
"Anime" is another tricky genre. It's not even simply a technique(s) ("Animation"), but a combination of technique(s) and country of origin (Animation + Japan) in the most strict use, although is often extended to include the output of some other Asian countries. Having "Anime" and "Animation" both as options means that to filter for animation, you really need to filter on both 'genres'... and then you still have the different types of animation (cel, CGI, stop-motion, rotoscoping, motion capture).
Really, for both Television and Anime, unless you actively update these "genres" yourself they're not especially useful for filtering on. Even then, if they mean that much to you, you can attach far more value to them with tag sets. | | | Adelaide Movie Buffs (info on special screenings, contests, bargains, etc. relevant to Adelaideans... and contests/bargains for other Aussies too!) | | | Last edited: by W0m6at |

At least it has been for me as I seldomly agree with the genres that are downloaded I usually have to go through them myself as I download them/watch them to make them filter correctly. I am not speaking per country. When you enter a DVD on the "General Information" tab under "Country of Origin" is the heading "Rating System" which allows you to choose "Television" or "Film". |

If there were a program change, then you would have identical ratings in both sections. | | | Adelaide Movie Buffs (info on special screenings, contests, bargains, etc. relevant to Adelaideans... and contests/bargains for other Aussies too!) |

Okay then, I shall do as Wombat does and use tags for television because I just don't like it as a genre because it isn't (IMO). It as much of a genre as "Movie" is a genre, that's why I don't think Ace's idea is not a bad idea. | | | Reviewer, HorrorTalk.com

That is odd because when I changed the locality both options were still available. I just downloaded the Australian profile for 'Boarding School. When I go into edit mode, and select rating system, the only option I have is 'film'. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | And that goes for many localities. My impression is (and I have DVDs from across the globe) that the distinct rating systems you guys in the US have for Movies and TV are the exception rather than the rule. |

| Posted: | | | | Do I understand this requirement correctly? Required Solution ------------- -------------------------------- Classify Movie characteristics Genres, Tags, Ratings, other fields Filter by characteristic Genres, Tags, other fields Custom characteristics Genres, Tags View tags, custom online no Contribute Fixed Genres yes Contribute custom Genres n/a Contribute Tags n/a
Does the solution we need boil down to being able to view Tags and Custom Genres Online and filter by Ratings?
Sorry if my view is too simplistic. Also, I forgot to doublecheck 3.6 features. Maybe already solved there? | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. Hey, new product!!! BDPFrog. | | | Last edited: by mediadogg |
