| Posted: | | | | Quoting KinoNiki: Quote: Another problem I see with this... Most people probably consider the terms Region Free, All Regions and No Regions as one and the same. Even the covers disagree wildly, some say All Regions, some say Region 0 and some say nothing at all or just list the default region so as not to confuse anyone. Which is exactly why Ken implemented the filter - so that all interpretations of what Region Free/All Regions/No Regions entails results in the exact same consistent entry every time. Since Pete referred to "bringing the program back" to what it was in his original post, I was worried for a minute, 'cause I really wouldn't want that. If that's not what he means - so the software will still prevent people from checking the boxes for each and every region, like it does now - then all is fine by me. | | | Last edited: by T!M |

| Posted: | | | | Tim... I said that because of my faulty memory. I thought we had a single "All" button back then. Whether we get an "All" box or not I do think the rules for region desperately needs an update for this... as they tell us.... Quote: List DVDs encoded for at least Regions 1-6 as "All." Regions 7-8 are ignored for the purposes of DVD Profiler. Which makes no sense with what the program does. | | | Pete |

It would be nice to clear up that inconsistency, yes, but the good news is that the program simply refuses to save "all boxes checked" anymore, so no matter the unfortunately-worded rule, the data can only be stored in the database in one way. That simple program filter (if you tick all the boxes and save the profile, it automatically reverses to "No Region Coding") does even more good than any rule would do. As long as we keep that, I'm happy. | | | Last edited: by T!M |

| Posted: | | | | Well... like I said... I would like to see something to be able to tell if the work has already been done. As is now I find myself re-checking the same profiles pretty much every time I pull the disc out for whatever reason. That is why I would like to see something like an All checkbox so that wouldn't keep happening.
The "All" box could even be local only... just so it stops the checking and re-checking. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | I've said it before, but I'll say it again;
I strongly feel that fields that are not required fields should always default to something that makes it clear that no data has been entered.
So, in case of subtitles, there ought to be a "Undetermined" alternative that is the default.
And no matter what you call a region free disc, I would like to have an "Undetermined" default there as well. | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users. Gunnar |

| Posted: | | | | Agree with the Subtitles request.
As for regions, it is unclear to me how this is substantially different from, let's say, audio tracks. There too I'm always unsure whether the work was already done properly and e.g. a commentary track has not been overlooked.
For such fields, a local-only indication of "verified personally" in some form could be useful. |

That's true - you can never be sure the data is accurate, but at least with audio tracks you can tell when they've been entered. With regions or subtitles you can't tell just by looking whether there aren't any or whether they simply haven't been entered. | | | Last edited: by northbloke |

That's your "All/None" right there. |

But in line with the feature request - Pete wants a way to tell the difference between a region code section that hasn't been filled in and a region-free disc. A checkbox marked "All/None" would do that. |

It's that I vividly remember the trouble I had with this before - endless debates with certain users, ping-ponging profiles and the like. This was a fix I was extremely happy with, which leaves nothing left to interpretation, as there's only one option to do it. This seems to go back from one option to three options, and I just can't see that as a good thing. | | | Last edited: by T!M |

I still have a copy of DVDProfiler 2.5 installed. In DVDProfiler 2.5 there was indeed an All check as below. Region ?ALL ?1 ?2 ?3 ?4 ?5 ?6 This changed with version 3. The rules seem to still reflect the version 2 check boxes. | | | Registered: February 10, 2002 |

| Posted: | | | | It is a common feature of databases to have a NULL value which is different from zero or the empty sting to indicate that a data value does not exist. Addicted2DVD would like to have this concept implemented for subtiltles and regions. And yes I would agree. Specially the subtitle fields are essential for me to be able to decide if I can buy a DVD abroad. The web sites are often not reliable for this kind information. And it happened that the website stated that subtitles would be available in my language but profiler would not mention them. And I have seen both cases, namely the subtitles really were not available and the website was at fault or the subtitles were available but nobody had entered them into profiler. Regions are not so important for me, because everything that I order from Europe is region 2 which would be my default region anyway and for the few discs that I order from North-America I don't care if they are region free or region 1 because I can play them anyway. The concept of NULL could be expanded to every check box that we have BTW. This could be solved with three state check boxes. Now we don't know if the video format (NTSC or PAL) has been set to a reasonable value or if it is simply at the default value for that region. We don't know if the film really is not 16x9 enhanced or the value just happens to be forgotten to be set. We don't know if there are really no trailers on the disc or if nobody has cared to check them yet. etcetera pp. |

There would still only be one option: use the "All/None" checkbox. I don't see where the other two options you mention come from. Quoting RHo: Quote: Now we don't know if the video format (NTSC or PAL) has been set to a reasonable value or if it is simply at the default value for that region. I find this one especially aggravating as every new profile I create defaults to NTSC even though I live in a PAL country! | | | Last edited: by northbloke |

If every checkbox was three-state (and supposedly set to NULL per default) then you would have to uncheck every subtitle language that is not present. So for a title without subtitling you would have to uncheck 56 checkboxes. I don't think that would be very popular. But if you treated subtitles (and possibly features) in another way, then I think it might be feasible. | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users. Gunnar |
