well i found a different program that will do what i want it to do.  it will also import my collection... sorry to say that until dvdprofiler adds more user features i might be moving on .

So move on, incredible that you use DVDP since 2007 and have no clue what tags are for...

BTW you have one single contribution in 5 years, I think the database won't suffer too much if you don't import your work in it anymore

But at least you learned that ponctuation is usefull

People starting thread on false premises really annoy me...

Yes but other programs are geared towards collectibility issues by default . This program is not
it had potential in the past and with the then upgrades .but what it could be is not what it is moving towards

It doesn't move backward...

It's a DVD collecting personal database, not a movie avi file collector or whatever else databse like most of the other softwares are. So it is what it is since the day you bought it. DVDP haven't move backward at all,  saying that it does is like saying that GM move backward everytime they do something else than an electric car.

Maybe someday. But the items you have interest in would not be available through the central online system and as others have nited all of this can already be achieved through the tag system I think we are probably quite a ways from what you want you want. The reason being is that as near as I can see there is not much.of a secondary market

The reason being is that as near as I can see there is not much.of a secondary market. It exists but at a fraction of any price, collector value near zero. My llection is worth about $75,000 at srp, $45,000 out of pocket, and maybe $15,000 on the secondary or collector's market. I collect for far more esoteric reasons. I am not  likely to see a positive return on investment.

I will add that I was amazed to discover.that there are titles that have been out litery for years that can still be purchased new and never opened, these are titles that left the distribution chain long ago but...I would be amazed if there were more than a handful of us that have nit opened and watched our product, that's what we are about after all.

All that is true . the first level market is forcing the second level market to be the only solution for certain movies that a person wants at a premium cost . So the collection program I use should reflect that .

Don't get me wrong I love this program and what It can do . But there is other programs that do what this cans do and more .

But their focus is totally different, king. I
am not saying you are wrong. What I am saying is that while profiler may someday into the "Scott's" catalog for DVD, see stamp collecting if you miss the reference,I think its way too premature and the secondary market needs some maturity and evolution to get us there. Right now the focus seems to be, on building this database yo the point where one day it may becomewhat you want but not yet.

I happy I found a program that can do this by default .

I'm also sad to discover that the program I was using for years was limited as to what the creators will let it do.

I bought my registration so im hoping that future updates will  have features that the competition has.

The focus is two different things but why do I need two databases to get the  results I'm looking for?

You don't.  Let's say you have an item, in your owned collection, that is unopened.  You simply create a tag called 'Unopened' and assign it to that item.  The item remains in your owned collection...still one database.  As GSyren said in his earlier post, the only thing you can't do with tags is list the collectible value.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

While it isn't contained in Profiler by default, everything he wants, with the exception of value, can be done using tags.  The problem seems to be that he just doesn't understand how to use the tags.

Maybe this guide helps to clarify the usage of tags for you, kingzombie.
