If this is done, I'd like to see the filters altered as well so that a a search for non-anamorphic DVDs won't turn up a bunch of combos. I realize there are work-arounds, but you shouldn't have to use them.

No workaround needed, you can filter for that already, just uncheck Blu-ray and HD-DVD.

That's a workaround. If you filter for non-anamorphic DVDs, you should get a list of non-anamorphic DVDs, not non-anamorphic DVDs, plus combo packs with anamorphic DVDs. The easiest way to address this would be to separate out combo packs in the filter or have an option to include or exclude them.

I'm not sure if you are understand what I'm saying...  You de-select blu-rays to see what non-anamorphic DVDs you only select DVDs, I don't see how you can say that is a workaround??

You have to deselect blu-rays to keep from coming up with a bunch of irrelevant/inaccurate search results. That's non-intuitive and you shouldn't have to do that. In general, if you search for a list of items that don't have an attribute, it should only return items that could potentially have that attribute. Otherwise, it's like including radio plays in a list of movies that aren't in color.

You shouldn't have to deselect Blu-rays to see only your DVDs?  Do you use the DVD Child profiles for Combo Packs?

Ace,

I agree that it is non-intuitive since one would have to know the irrelevance of anamorphic for HD media. But... selecting on anamorphic one would only do if you know what you're talking about - and then you'll probably know to filter out the HD media. If you do not by accident, the first filter result no doubt reminds you on what to do really. It not like you'd have to compose 10 minutes of editing of OR and AND clauses; both media and anamorphic filter selections are in the same filter tab.

But if Ken can device an algorithm that filtering on non-anamorphic implies not selecting HD media, fine by me. It just has to be crystal-clear in the user interface what one is doing.
Eric

If it is important, say it. Otherwise, let silence speak.

A lot of people have trouble with the filter GUI design. Perhaps that is a case for it being "non-intuitive," if your premise is that most people don't understand (well) Boolean logic and tri-state checkboxes (on, off, grey).

(1) The filter is on profiles, not individual components, which are treated as attributes of a profile, for the purposes of filtering

(2) Don't forget to interpret the grey checkbox as "don't care." And then don't forget to apply the "AND" or "OR" between them, selected by the radio box. Clever - yes. Flexible - yes. Intuitive - maybe not. But all of those options are part of the design, not just the ones you understand.
