Hey Beowulf,

Just checking in to see how the development is going...  I recently got a DroidX and I think DVD Profiler is one of the last things I need on it   I haven't done any coding on the Droid yet, but know a fair bit of Java, Tcl, Perl, PHP, and Shell scripting if it'd help the cause!

Thanks,
XXXX

Hi there.. sorry for the delay in responding

Sadly to say the development stalled. I was initially witting it to fulfil a need in managing my own collection but with work, illness and other things cropping up I sort of shelved the project. Then I came across MyMovies for Android. While not perfect it has some nice features and does pretty much what I wanted an app to do. I'm not one for stepping on other developers toes and had I got my one out first then it would have been there for public download. The other developer got his out first and I didn't see the point of yet another app that does 98.8% of what the other one does (if you follow)

I use MyMovies now.. it's a bit clunky getting the app across but it works and looks (and more importantly runs) nicely on my Desire HD.

I have "ideas" and a new galaxy tablet that I'm messing around with and should I feel the time is right for another bash at this I may resurrect the project.. but for the time being it's in deep freeze.

to be brutally honest.. thanks to a new copy of Visual Studio.. I'm back to developing for windows mobile again..

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings!

All the best

Pete.

[crickets chirping] given today's date, and the relative silence, I'm hoping we see a smiling happy post at some point later, however, the majority of us understand that "life happens" and this isn't your full-time job.

I sincerely hope that all is well with you and yours.  Barring any posts to the contrary, I'll check out "MyMovies" on my new Thunderbolt and see if I can find a way to port my 1500+ titles over into it.

Kindest regards, and thanks again for DVD Profiler!

Spence

I am in no way affiliated with the DVD profiler team.    just a professional mobile and windows Apps developer who needed a tool on his smartphone and was too impatient to wait for an official application ;-)

sorry again folks.. really life > hobby programming I'm afraid.

There is a interesting article about how some software developers are frustrated with the Android platform.
This may be why Ken could have some difficulty working on a Android app.

I hope there will be an android app in the future for dvdprofiler. Meanwhile i use from collectorz.com Movie Collector Standard and their android app in combination with dvdprofiler. Works fine with dvdprofiler. Movie Coolector in itself is however inferior tot dvd profiler.
Movie Collector is now available at discount price, http://clz.com/spring. If you ask for the trial version of this software you get an discount code ($5,--), you can use for the android app.

+1 for Android

Others in this thread have already posted experiences similar to mine...
As my DVD collection grew over time, I started looking for this type of software to run on my PC and/or Windows Mobile device. After trying some PC-based as well as some mobile solutions, I settled on DVD Profiler due to its superior quality over others I tried, as well as the availability of the Windows Mobile application. Also like some others here, I have recommended this application to friends and family, especially those with Windows Mobile devices.

I've owned Windows Mobile 2003, 5, 6, 6.1, and 6.5 Pro devices over the years... And they've always fit my personal likes and purposes.

But I have no intention of buying a "Windows Phone 7" device, as I think that platform is a step in the wrong direction for Microsoft, and certainly a step in the wrong direction for me as a user.

And for reasons that do not matter in this thread, I will NEVER buy an iPhone.

I still carry a WM 6.5 Pro device with DVD PM installed (which I use almost daily), despite the fact that some of its features don't work properly in this OS. Sadly, I think that we can all agree that Windows Mobile is a dead platform, leaving somebody like me with Android as the only alternative. I actually purchased an HTC Inspire 4G two days ago, but have not yet began to use it because software from Invelos, SPB, and a couple of other developers I've come to depend on for the day-to-day operation of my mobile device is not yet (or will not be) available for Android. Of course, I didn't buy the phone to be a paperweight. I have been (and will continue) searching for alternate applications to serve my specific needs, but would prefer to remain loyal to a few software companies which have enriched my mobile experience for quite some time.

+1 for Android.

I will be moving to Android X or an iPhone before the end of the year. I think it will be Android, but I want the best one possible and right now the best has an extremely short battery life. I could upgrade to Android now, but I'm going to wait until November which is the earliest I can upgrade to iPhone with my current carrier. I want the option to compare one to the other at the time of upgrade.

I don't usually say anything, but Ken, it would be great to have DVDP not be the deciding factor for me again. I remember a picture of a certain book on your work desk. I hope that means you have been trying to get it working. A mere mention, yay or nay, that sometime in the foreseeable future, no matter how far, would go a long way to making my decision less stressful. And yes, even a nay would be good, because that makes the decision making process possible. Thanks.

+1 more for Android

Has anyone actually tried to use the sync features of 'My Movies' from desktop to Android? It sucks!  Worse is the fact that in order to import your DVD Profiler database into MyMovies you have to purchase the desktop based software. But you cannot simply buy it, you have to buy credits to buy 'chunks' of it. It's very complicated and poorly implemented, if you want the same features as DVD Profiler it equates to serious amounts of money. It's barmy! The only way to get free credits is a very time consuming uploading of contributions. The free credits are misely and again complex. So it's a no brainer to say I wont be going any where near that pile of pants.

I already bought DVD Profiler, spent weeks getting all my collection on board and accurate. I just want to view it on my phone/tab.

PLEASE!! can you see how many Android users there are out there and see the potential to make money AND keep your customers loyal.
