This is the one that changed it from "The Birds" to "Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds"???

Tell me it isn't so!

No, this was the one that changed it from Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds to just The Birds.

That's what locks are for Skip, but why not wait and actually see if there will be ping ponging? Have some faith in the community and voting process. But you are of course free to do what you want :-)

I don't see there was any "whim" here, there was a fully documented change made to replace incorrect data, fully within the rules.

I don't see how it could be changed back.

Then vote for a lock, but I don't think you will get the other five necessary votes anytime soon. At least not until people see the need for it to be locked. And I don't think they will until the ping-ponging happens.

A possessive is a possessive, not part of the title. If a possessive is above the title, then how can the possessive be any part of a title? How does something get placed above itself?

Possessives are called possessory credits. As in "credits" as to where they belong.

I believe I've answered this before.

And apparently you are ready to just throw the rules of language right out the window, eh?  You can't have a possessive without an object.  They are two parts of a whole, and you can't separate them.

But, I guess you all are going to do whatever you want to anyway, logic and common sense be damned.  Have at it.

Rules of language have very little to do with film titles.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.

The title itself is the object of the possessive.

John's lack of English grammar skills...

Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds

Possesives are adjectives, modifying nouns. The title is a noun, singular ("The Birds" is coming!), the possessive modifies that title, but is not part of the noun.

From which university did you receive your degree in English? I suggest a refresher course.
If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

He has it backwards anyway. You can have an object without a possessive.

I fail to see why this shouldn't be locked.  It seems pointless to wait for the ping-ponging.  That's exactly why we have locks.  So we don't have to worry about that.

The tool is there to prevent us from being annoyed in the future.  It's not meant to be used only after you're annoyed.  The Birds has been deemed to be correct, so I'm happy to add a lock to it.

I responded differently in the rules forum, it was similar to what Vibro said but I will repost it here...

John is applying a very narrow view in order to get to your goal.  Yes, there has to be an object for the possesive to work but, in this case, the object is the title of the film.

I submitted a fix for "Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds" earlier today to remove the "Alfred Hitchcock's" portion and received several confused comments about this already being submitted.  Unless I'm missing something, I believe the one already submitted and approved was a different UPC.  Probably the one from the new Masterpiece Collection.  Mine is from the old Best of Hitchcock sets.  So for those leaving those comments, that's probably your answer.  That or I made a stupid mistake.
