The best way to stop it until its ready for prime time is for Ken to turn the damn thing off. If you CAN'T enter the stuff, it won't mess up the database. And yeah, I can hear the howls of protest from the usual suspects even as I type. Good point. If he wanted to do that, it would be quite simple. Obviously, he doesn't want to do that! That, too, should tell you something. Right. There are some users who don't want us to use the feature, but there's been no directive from Invelos to not use the feature. They've made statements that enhancements are forthcoming, but they haven't said to not use it, except within the broad rule they've listed in the contribution rules. | | | ...James

| Posted: | | | | Lol, James. Based upon what precisely. I seem to recall a few weeks ago you attempted to tell me Laszlo Kovacs with diacriticals was the common name, which would be correct based on HIS name. But if the criteria applied is credits then it would almost certainly be without diacriticals as that is how he is most commonly credited. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! Skip I'm not arguing the pros and cons of the rule that we've been given. I'm just saying that all we have is: Quote: Use the "As Credited" field where the person's name differs from the credited name. That's what we have and we haven't been told to disregard it. I think we can both agree that if Ken comes up with a standard, our arguments will go away. | | | ...James

That, too, should tell you something. Just because he hasn't turned it off yet, doesn't mean he won't or that he doesn't want to. That is just you presuming to think for Ken again. Maybe he's leaving it on just so he can get some cheap laughs by reading the idiocy that passes for debate in these forums. Of course, maybe he left it on hoping that those who insist on using something that isn't working correctly will finally have the sense God gave little green apples and STOP using it till he's ready with a final solution. | | | John

I think this should be in the rules post haste, perhaps adding "while standing on your head." Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

Skip My statement is based on this direct quote from the Rules: "Use the "As Credited" field where the person's name differs from the credited name." If Ken does not want us to follow that Rule then he should remove it and shut off the functionality. I have no idea what you are babbling about. | | | Hal |

What a crock! Maybe the most obvious is the reason he hasn't turned it off. Because he doesn't want to! | | | Hal |

I have no idea what you are babbling about. Hal: So I must be missing something. Show me the standards and criteria to use it. Please don't tell me that you have the ability to determine what the Common Name is. Common Name based upon what excatly, Hal. Do you favor using a dartboard or horseshoes to decide and what happens if someone dares to disagree with you. As long as that exists Hal, you can scream about it as much as you wish the system is simply impossible to implement. You claim the Common Name is James, based upon what criteria I haven't a clue, I use my Ouija board a decide it is Jim, somebody else uses a dartboard and comes up with Jimmy ad infinitum. A rule without Rules gotta love it...not the Mama Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

Skip While I agree with you, the rules don't require a standard. It is unfortunate but, it is what it is. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | Like I said a Rule without Rules. Welcome to the bad old days.
Also as I have said repeatedly and I don't care how much Hal or anyone yells about it, without a standard and criteria, I will NOT make use of it. I think anyone who does is out of their cotton-pickin' mind, but I will vote neutral. Once Ken gives us standards and criteria I will be first on the train.

Skip Not that it matters, but he is wrong about it being James. Jimmy Stewart is one of my all-time favorite actors, and I've made it a point of watching every appearance he made over the years and every interview he did. In virtually every one of them he was referred to by the host or interviewer as "Jimmy." On film, however, he was ALWAYS billed as "James Stewart". I've never seen a single one of his movies that is different. So, which do you use? There is ample proof that either one is correct. Like you say, it ain't ready for prime time yet. | | | John
