| Posted: | | | | Since there's some dissension, to expand on my indication that I like the idea, let me say how I'd use it.
I collect film from certain actors/directors/etc. Often I wish to have a way to make notes to myself regarding which of their films aren't on DVD yet, or which of their films on DVD are currently undesirable (eg. Pan & Scan, non-anamorphic), things like that. Currently, I keep those notes outside of the program. If I had a way to integrate this into the program, that would be very helpful.
This also goes along with a previous request of mine (buried somewhere here) where I said I would like to be able to have direct access to the cast and crew database without having to go through a DVD profile. There are maintenance issues with names, including birth year and this proposed notes field, that would work nicely with a separate access to that data. | | | ...James

... but you will anyway, huh? I may be new to this venue, but hardly to forums in general, jack! And, as originator of this thread, I think that gives me the right -- nay, the responsibility -- to say what is and what is not off topic. | | | -R. And, as originator of this thread, I think that gives me the right -- nay, the responsibility -- to say what is and what is not off topic. No need to get your panties in a bunch. Ken doesn't play favorites. He'll ignore your request the same as he would for anyone else. I do like what James wrote. It made me think twice about my opinion on the issue. But after thinking about it again, I still don't think I'd find it useful. On the other hand, the program has plenty of features in it that I seem to have no problem ignoring, so I remain neutral. And if Ken is reading this, just kidding. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection. |

I'd love it if I we could submit/download the data from the main database, but we just barely agree on how to enter the correct runtime. Something like this would be completely unmanageable. Besides that, I'm not sure what advantage this would give me over hitting something like IMDB or searching the web for additional information on the person. I'm very rarely against any particular request and I'm not actually voting against this one. But I'd love to see some solutions to existing problems we have profiling DVDs before something like this (such as multiple movies on a single disc).
So I guess I'm neutral on the issue. I doubt this would be something that gets stored in the online. The current notes attached to regular profiles are local only and I don't see why this would be any different. I could go for this feature. I've heard a number of good ways it could be used. |

| Posted: | | | | Wouldn't use the feature myself as I'm not an actor trivia buff but if enough users wanted it, I don't see any reason why something like this couldn't be implemented. Click on an icon, similar to the headshot icon, next to an actor's name and a note pad pops up, something like that? | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |

Wait till you start one of our 2 page per minute "debate" threads. Then you'll see just how little control you have over the topic. |

I'd like the note to be placed on the same pane as the head shot, truncated if required. Click on the note area to bring up an edit dialog. | | | -R. And, as originator of this thread, I think that gives me the right -- nay, the responsibility -- to say what is and what is not off topic. What happens in 'forums in general' means nothing here. The norm in this forum is 'off-topic' posts. It has been that way for as long as I have been here and your 'rights and responsibilities' will not change it. But you can keep trying if you want. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. And, as originator of this thread, I think that gives me the right -- nay, the responsibility -- to say what is and what is not off topic. I don't think so, JACK. You will find that we wander and tell bad jokes and sometimes even sing, as well as arge and discuss. Fair warning, you are developing a very bad attitude, I suggest in as friendly a way as I can that you drop it, it will only make you a target. I see some advantages to your solution, but there is one problem, for actors for whom we have no notes : we need the name anyway, and the number of movies in the collection is also interesting | | | Images from movies |
