| Posted: | | | | It's like in the USA you had to hear movies with a Scottish acccent. You do understand it but it kinda gets in your nerves. Subs are easier as most of the language is the same, but formals are diferent. You can't understand the concept since english doesn't have 3rd person in plural (you =1 , you = many) but we have them and we use one of the forms and the Brazilians use the other... it's very frustating. YouPT= tu, YouBR=você, in pT we use você as a way of addressing a person we don't like or in a high rank, brazilians ise it for the exact opposite. Since almost every line in the movie will contain one of these situations you can imagine our desperation... just try and picture subs done with Shakespeare english... |

It's just like the Spanish use of Tu and Usted. Tu is the familiar term used to address children or close friends whereas Usted is formal used to address superiors or those held in high esteem. | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |

| Posted: | | | | Not counting constructed languages, the only language I've found so far that is found on any of my DVDs but not supported in DVD Profiler in Inuktitut, which is an Inuit dialect. Atanarjuat is probably the only movie ever made in this language to be released on DVD, so I can live with this. IMDB list 400 major languages and 266 minor ones. A lot of the latter group can be eliminated because they are constructed languages used for one franchise (Klingon, Sindarin), are sign languages and thus don't lend themselves to subtitles or audio tracks or have never actually been used as the language for a movie, old a few words here and there (Old English). I like the idea of just hiding all the unused ones in a given collection with the option to show them if need be. It would probably take about 200 to be reasonably comprehensive. |

We have 4 diferentes forms for the second person of singular. Not one, not two... we are more "macho" and we have 4. - "Berorika". Very extremally formal for used with autority and religiosmen. - "Zuka". Similar To that moment, it's normal and similar with many languaje. But we also have "Hitanoa", a form for use with very friendly persons... and for more easy , it's diferent to use if you are talking with a boy or with a girl, mading one form be a double form. The congugation is diferent for each modality of this form. Some people can't learn basque being learnig more than 8 years. Basque is for crazy people. |
