platini76,

have you considered to set up a second database with DVD Profiler? When you open the File menu you'll find "Open Database" where you can create a second database on the same computer.

You could create it and add all your Wii games to it. Then you wouldn't need another field indicator because there would be just Wii games in this particular database.

Another perfectly good solution

Laser Discs, VHS Tapes

I wouldn't use it but I wouldn't mind either if Ken added any media type that carries movies on it.

Surely VHS tapes have only one audio track and unlikely subtitles but it's still basically profilable, it has one audio track, it has an aspect ratio, it has cast and crew, it has a cover, ...

Platini, since it's obvious by your name that you are French this is the answer in french :

For the non-french speaker here : nothing mysterious in my answer, just the usual answers to his question but written in his language.

But the rules tells us spacifically that DVD Profiler is NOT for video games...

Rules Quote:
Quote:
Contribute only the following items to the main database:

    * "DVD Video, HD-DVD Video, and Blu-ray Video" discs (including MiniDVD): These discs contain movies, television shows, music performances and other professionally-produced and sold DVDs. No CDs, DVD-Audio discs, video games , Video CDs, or VHS titles will be accepted.
    * “DVD Video”: These discs, included as bonus discs with CDs or video games are accepted, but only contribute the DVD Video information.
    * Dual-Disc DVDs (which store both “DVD Video” and “DVD Audio” information): These can be contributed, but include “DVD Video” information only.

So don't matter if the video game is on a DVD disc.

It would make a whole lot more sense if Ken were to add Laser Disc and VHS as media types to the program because they are, as Karsten says, similar types of programming.

But since it's clear that Ken does not want us to include Laser Discs, VHS tapes, etc. on purpose, why would he make an exception and add games to the program?  That DOESN'T make any sense at all.
Another Ken (not Ken Cole)

I haven't seen anything that suggests Platini wants to contribute these profiles. He just wants to store information himself and use the existing program to do this.

Having another media type could accomplish this and in addition the program could be set to not allow these 'other' types to be contributed.

In the meantime, Platini could just use a new tag.

One solution to this dilemma would be for Ken, when and if he has the time and resources, to develop Expansion Packs. If you want to catalog console games as well as DVDs then you could purchase the Video Game Expansion Pack. Want to catalog your old laser discs and VHS tapes as well as DVDs then purchase the Classic Expansion Pack. Or maybe you'd like to catalog your CD collection as well as DVDs then get the All New CD Expansion Pack.

Now that would be cool   .

That would be very cool idea.  After the first post in the Collected Feature Requests says "That's it. We have every feature we want".

Until then, I'd much prefer that Ken find a way to handle a disc that has 2 or more movies on the same side of the disc. Not that tracking Wii games wouldn't be cool.  But in keeping with the spirit of the original poster, I paid for this program and expect it to handle such a simple feature.

I currently have a Home Cinema with many hundreds of DVD's and Blu_ray movies.  Of course, I also have some video games, VHS tapes, etc.

As a movie buff, I bought into the LaserDisc world 10 years ago, with more than 200 titles, some of which have never been converted to DVD.  At this time, there is no reasonable data base "out there" to help me manage my laserdisc collection.

I would like to see a simple extension of the Media Type field to allow a flag for LaserDisc.  This does not complication things very much since the "content" of the movie is very much what you would find on a DVD or Blu-Ray (or HD-DVD).  The Cast/Crew/etc. are all the same as what is used on DVDs.

What could be different is the cover art since some have internal art work in addition to the front and back.  Also the number of discs to support a single movie is larger since it is all done in analog format. Although CAV and CLV recording modes are unique, the sound recording fits the normal choices of Dolby, DTS etc.

I can see where simply adding a new media type for LaserDisc, one or more specialty fields for recording type and number of discs would be straightforward and destroy the original intent of the DVD Profiler - describing the movie content in detail, and providing an inventory of discs.

I have several friends that also have LaserDisc collections and would like to simply add them to complete their movie collection of high quality material.

I would be glad to work with any of the Invelos developers to help build the necessary add-on information - and keep it limited.

Dick.

Sorry, I meant to say keep the intent of DVD Profiler.
