It's nothing opersonally against you. Martian is saying that as Ken doesn't read French, he has no way of knowing whether the translation is correct. This would be the case no matter who did the translation, so there's no need to take it personally.

I agree with that : that is not personal. In this case, I find Martian's attitude even worse. That means that he trusts nobody here. Does he think that people who contribute something (not only profiles) here do this  just to sabotage the databases of others ???
The problem here is that there are places where we act as a team (I never see Martian in those places...), and place where people fight one against the others, as in contribution forum.

About Ken, he already accepts the translations of the program itself, with possible consequences far more important for users than a bad translation of rules. Who complained against a bad translation of the program ????

Oh please, Yves, get over yoourself. none of us here are out to abuse you. Martian is certainly no bully, he and i can have heated disagreements...so what. The world is not out to get surfeur. If you believe that what Martian says means he does not trust, perhaps you should ask yourself why that would be true, I can certainly see how that could be possible, though I consider it highly unlikely.

Even with the best of intentions, there are often questions of implication that get lost in translation. You don't have to intentionally mislead someone to have a problem.

Besides, look at the German users, who have developed their own standards, many of which are contrary to the rules. Clearly, people will try to change things.

Indeed, that is exactly what I meant.  surfeur51 has decided, for his own reasons, that he wants to be offended by anything I say.  That is his choice and, if it makes him feel better to think of me as the bad guy and himself as the victim, so be it.  What I will not allow, however, is for him to twist my words in an attempt to make me look bad.  Unlike some people here, when I am an ass, I own it.  I won't pretend that I wasn't.  If, however, it was a misunderstanding, I will apologize and attempt to explain it better.  I can't do anything other than that.

Anyway, I have wasted enough time on this.  Thanks, at least, for understanding what I meant.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

I remember sending you a friendly PM to explain things just between us, which is the right place for this kind of discussion. You just answered me "never PM me again". So yes, you could have done other things than that.

And it is funny to see you accuse me of twisting your words, as I reproach you exactly the same thing. Do you feel as a victim ???

While I see a lot of locality German contributions, I can't see how they are different regarding conforming to the rules than the contributions of other localities (UK, Switzerland, Canada, US, France, Australia, Netherlands). What I can see is that the big contribution fights are usually in the US locality. Probably because it has the largest user base.

Hmm, many contrary to the rules?!
Why can't I remember them?

Btw, for German speaking people there is a very good translation of the rules that was made by a user.

There was one that I was aware of, but a rules update seems to now allow for them.

In particular, using dashes instead of colons (which i think shoudl be a locale-specific rule, but that's not how it is at the moment).

That's the one I was referring to & now seems to be in the rules -

Quote:
For titles which include periods, dashes, or other symbols, check the credit block on the back of the case if included. If not, check the film credits or opening sequence. Use these to determine whether to exclude or convert the symbol to a standard character such as ".", "-", or "*"

I don't read it that way, Forget. Since it does not list : as one of the standard characters.

Just had to go back to page 1 of this thread.
Just wanted to check what the original topic was ...
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

I know what you suggesting and I understand your logic BUT

"For titles which include periods, dashes, or other symbols, check the credit block on the back of the case if included. If not, check the film credits or opening sequence. Use these to determine whether to exclude or convert the symbol to a standard character such as ".", "-", or "*"

The colon is not included here, yet it is talked about later in the Rule. In essence because that portion of the rule is incomplete, there is no way to determine what standard characters are being suggested for use. All we can do is fall back to the Rule which does spell out the use of the colon. The first sentence is fine, the second provide no resolution.

Which use of colons are you talking about? German users use the colon for episode descriptors and music performers without any problem according to the rules the same way as any other locality's users.
