I don't care where the field is exactly, but I want to be able to sort on TV. For example: Battlestar Galactica the Complete Series, 24 Season 7, Fringe the Complete Frist Seasonis a complete different list than say: The Ultimate Matrix Collection, The Social Network, AvatarI believe the difference is so fundamental that it warrants a possibility to sort on it, included in the program and not just by using custom genres or tags. | | | Blu-ray collection DVD collection My Games My Trophies |

Simply put6, you are trying to suuplant your opinionsw over others and consider your opinion to be greate3r than anyone else's demonstrrated by both your argument and your recitation of your "expertise".
I think your opinion is great, but6 it is yoiur opinion and with this program you have the freedom to exercise many options including not using Te4levisioin in your local. Leave well enough alone, Ace abnd bo as you wish locally | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

I fail to understand why you feel that it's OK for some to express an opinion here but not others. We should all have an equal opportunity to make our feature requests known. --------------- |

It's not the opinion as much as it is a recitation of the3 same argument that has been used at every opportunity. And it's not so m uch a feature request as a discussion about Television relative to Genre. The3 FACT is that in Profiler it is a Genre and has been for 10 years, that has not chaqnged and I suspect is not likely to. I would pregfer to see more discussion relative to features that could be really helpful, such as a Color/B&W switch,, or wahtever. I don't even think it is useful, at this point to discuss things like the broken linking system, I am sure that Ken is well aware of that problem and is probably working towards some sort of solution and we can but wait to see what develops in the future. The existing system was poorly designed and implemented, I would have done it differently, and I have seen some other ideas wqhich might be effective. I am on the record adn have been since day one. It serves no use to hash, rehash the same thing over and over again. My popint Televisions IS a Genre in Profiler...get over it already. What I personally bellieve is not relevant, nor do you know what I believe personally ois of no import. I see it as a complete and utter waste of time to even worr4y about it, it is what it is. How hard would it be to move all existing Television Genre to a switch, I don't know....I am not familiar with Delphi.... would all the Television Genre have to be manually redone by users, that's unacceptable just to mollify some users who siomply want to argue whether it is or is not | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! Now if Ken would just close the Feature Requests forum to let us know Profiler's at a dead end... --------------- | | | Last edited: by scotthm |

I definitely don't want TV removed, nor do I want it un-sortable. But it shouldn't be listed as a genre, since it's not really. | | | Reviewer, HorrorTalk.com

| Posted: | | | | In my opinion, if it's flat out wrong, then it should be removed. I would say TV isn't necessarily a real genre. But I would hesitate to say it doesn't belong there or is flat out wrong. It may not be accurate. But it's inclusion in genres doesn't break anything.
If the argument is because it's not really a "genre" or something else having to do with doing things "correctly", I'd call it low priority to get changed. Or maybe not. I hate to see updates that make things nicer or better. That can wait for a major program update.
It the argument for change is that there's a better way to do it that still serves everyone's needs and adds functionality not present before, then it has my support. But again, not till the next major update.
Personally, I don't filter like that. I have a custom type called TV that all my TV stuff goes into. And others for DVD, Blu-ray, HD DVD, etc. My TV movies go into my TV category. So I don't need that genre to filter on. Rarely use genre anyway. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. | Posted: | | | | Animation and Anime are not genres either, but like TV, we don't have a place to track them, unless we add a field (such as Live Action/Animation/Both). Until dedicated fields are made available, genres is our only choice. | | | Last edited: by synnerman |

I'd like to see them moved to some sort of medium field where you could mark live-action, animation (possibly split into several categories), black and white, color, tinted, colorized, etc. |

Merriam gives us Genre-a category of artistic, musical, or literary composition characterized by a particular style, form, or content. Since Animation, Anime, Stop Motion, etc are all a style of presentation, they would be all classed as genre. Where as TV, Theater, Straight to Video are all how it was delivered. Charlie |

I'm sitting between the chairs here. I can see both sides of the argument of animation being a genre or not. But why do you feel the need to condescend him? He's just arguing his point of view. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

I am not being condescending. I am being decidedly sarcasatic and flippant. It wasw not I that listed any sortr of background to support an opinion on Genre, it was Ace. It was also Ace who tried to change Star Trek IV from the CORRECT Henre of Sci-Fi, Action, Adventure to Sci-Fi, Adventure, Comedsy becxause4 in HIS opinion it vwas a Comedy not just a film that does have comediuc elements. I see him saqwying basically the same thing here, he is areguing whetrher something is or is not a Genre, the FACT is that in Profiler Television is considered a Genre, so is Animation, I did not make thaqt calll, Ken did yeqars and years ago. Whta my OPINIONJ is not relevant nor is his, only Ken.s and he has not choisen toi change it in 10 years, Ace has not made any suggestion of doing it differently, he simply argues that Television is not a Genre, many of us might agreee, myself included, but the fact remains that many of us find it useful informatiuon.
I also pointed out that PERHAPS Television could be moved to checkbox, but that bwoulkd only be acceptable IF all the existing entries can be ported over, if we would have to go back and manually check trhe box that is NOT acceptable. Ace appears to me toi simpoly want to impoosew his oiwn dsefinitions of whatr or is NOT Genre/ I have never seen once state that despite what his opinion moght be that Profiler considers it to be a Genre, he wants to make a change which ius suitable to himself and trhe possible consequences and ramificatioins to other users be damned | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!!
