I rather not have it. I've good al my DVD's sorted on collection numbering. If adjusts the numbering al lthe sorting will have to be redone again.

It's not that you're rather not have it but you'd rather not use it.

Absolutely.  It would be an option (as with any option) that you would choose to use or not, simple as that.      -kd5-

When you choose to remove a DVD from your Collection, is there a way to offer the option to automatically adjust the numbers to fill in the gap left in eliminating said DVD?

One way to solve this problem could be Bulk Edit, if mediadogg were willing to:
a) change the sorting of Collection numbers in BE. Right now they aren't sorted as numbers but as letters, meaning 11 titles sort: "1, 10, 11, 2, 3 ..."
b) add an option to auto-fill a column, Collection Numbers in this case, with up-counting numbers.

If a) and b) were implemented you'd simply flag all your titles, put them into BE, load Title and Collection-number, sort, auto-fill, save.

That would of course eliminate all gaps, if one gap should remain while another is closed ... well, that would be another story.

cya, Mithi

PS If it's not to late already: an interim solution would be not to delete those titles but simply move them to a Collection-Category "dead items" that shares the Collection-Numbers with the Owned-List. That way those numbers do not become available for reassignment.

Believe me, as much as I'd like to, I won't be removing any DVDs from my Collection until I'm either able to complete a MONUMENTAL renaming of Sort Titles, or an option is made available to Reassign Collection Numbers without making any other changes.        -kd5-

@Mithi,
Some good changes proposed for BE. Consider them on the (growing) list. I could probably respond to an "emergency" request, but for now I will just plan to add stuff at the next update (maybe a couple of weeks ...).

But wait, I came into this late, so I must have missed the point of why Collection / Reassign Collection numbers can't be used ... ????
Thanks for your support.

@mediadogg: kd5 has some very specific preferences about sorting which are not (yet?) reflected by his sorting titles, so an automatic reassignment would blow his list-order to oblivion.

Although mediadogg did respond, I think for your purpose a renaming of the sort-titles would be the way to go. In the long run this will save you some head-ache not only if you delete the numbers but especially if you add new titles. Clicking through several hundred titles in DVD Profiler would be of course a punishment, so BulkEdit is the way to go:

Example: some of my Star Trek profiles

sorted by the already customized sort-titles.

Now lets assume I want them ordered: movies first, then the series in order of their production-start, the Fan Collectives as anthologies between them.
~10 minutes later:

with some find and replace magic (in BulkEdit: Multi Copy -> Tool 2) that really isn't a big problem.

cya, Mithi

PS In case you wonder: Star Trek: Movie 6.2 is an upgrade to anamorphic PAL, coz the 6.1 is a non-anamorphic NTSC DVD.

PPS And if you remember the three rules of good computing: 1) make back-up's, 2) make back-up's and 3) make back-up's, you don't have to worry about loosing anything.

Basically, slide down the collection to fill in the gap.  Remove #5, #6 becomes #5, #7 becomes #6, and so on.

I would like this.  Since I order my collection ID's based on purchase date, I have a work around with a manual sort but this type of resequence would be very handy if I ever change that.

Or maybe the option to never fill-in a missing slot, to always grab the next highest number.

i would like this as well... this is exactly how I do this, and I very regularly trim redundant titles from the collection.

Well, I just completed the monumental task of renaming Sort By's so if I ever decide to remove a DVD from my collection and need to Reassign Collection Numbers, the order I have my DVDs in won't get changed.  There are still a few that I have no idea what to do with.  It's easy to rename Season One/Two and Disc One/Two, to Season 1/2 and Disc 1/2, and the Rambo movies to Rambo 1, 2, 3, etc., but what about movies that take place within a TV series, between seasons, of which I have several?  There are others I don't know what to do with either, but I guess that's my problem.

I still wish there was an option to Reassign Collection Numbers without making any other changes, in the instance where a DVD was removed from the collection and you just wanted to fill in the gap without rearranging the collection.  All of this extra work would not have been necessary.

Hoping this remains a serios consideration,      -kd5-

Well, if a movie is between Season 6 and 7 that movie is Season 6.5

OK, how would you handle Stargate SG-1/Atlantis, the original Stargate movie and the 2 movies: Ark of Truth and Continuum without changing the order in which they are to be viewed (which is how I have them arranged)?  Would you name the Sort By's Stargate 1, 2, 3, etc., including the movies, so that they remain in order of how they are to be viewed in the series?  What happens to Stargate 10, 11, 12, etc.?  Does it get placed in its proper numerical sequence after 9?  Will 10 get placed after 9 or after 1?  These are the questions I'm faced with in renaming Sort By's, just so if I choose to remove a DVD from my collection and Reassign Collection Numbers, it makes other changes that I would prefer it didn't make in the first place.  In this regard, having thought that I was done, I discover that I'm not.

It would be so much simpler if there was an option to Reassign Collection Numbers without making any other changes than to fill in the gap left behind in removing said DVD.      -kd5-

With 10 or more seasons to a series you want to use

Stargate SG-1 01
Stargate SG-1 02
Stargate SG-1 03
.....
....
...
Stargate SG-1 09
Stargate SG-1 10

for it to sort right. Any movies (I am not that familiar with the series) you should be able to find out where it belongs by searching episode guides.
