One night; about 25 years ago; I, my brother and a couple of friends were driving home from the old Valhalla cinema in Northcote, Melbourne. We had been to a 24hr Sci-Fi movie marathon and it was about 4.00AM in the morning, it was really foggy and dark. As we were approaching the old Epsom racecourse in Moorabin; suddenly out of the fog and dark reared a galloping white horse which passed within two inches of my drivers side door. Scared the crap out of me. It was followed by the ridiculous site of a wheezing overweight old man (the trainer I presume) running after the horse! As you can tell Parsec, it was a Night to Remember. True story.

I'm very glad I don't live near a racecourse.

Cheers

I know three other Aussies who use profiler, personally. I'm not going to say who they are, not my place.

Cheers.

Many, many, many, many years ago when I was young we used to go to the Pier Theatre to watch movies. Thats right it was built on a pier and so old that when it was high tide the water would come up under the screen and cover the floor. The old days of canvas seats, and when it was a king tide, well the front row wasn't the best place to be.

Good for disaster movies with water in them though.. great effect. :-)

Fx: rattles the cage to wake the aussies up

You people have been really quiet!!!!!  Parsec also made the 200 club  - that's about a 70 increase in the last 2 or 3 months.. hmm.
(Parsec also notices he is talking to and about himself in the third person - well all the other aussies are asleep...)

@wombat
Ok I've moved on to Blu-ray like you suggested. Guess what, i still have to contribute the profiles, but at least I got to steal a cast and crew list from your profile copy of Priest
Accepted Profile Contributions: 138 Accepted Image Contributions: 96
Plus a bunch more awaiting to be screened... that's terrible for a collection of only 200 odd....

You asked for it! (See my sig). I don't mind if non-Adelaideans join (some things will still be relevant - e.g. bargains & contests).

I wouldn't have made it public if I didn't want other people to have it.

So... I watched Jurassic Park again, this time off the Blu-ray. With the new setup (currently just a Sherwood 7.1 receiver, two floor-standing speakers and a 10" downfiring sub) it sounded great, and with the volume at a fairly modest level, we still got a few rumbles coming through the couch courtesy of the T. Rex.

Bummer... I'm not a facebook person/member (and don't want to be)

I was impressed with the Avengers with DTS HD MA 7.1 - finally something produced that my system is designed for! I have been searching Blu-rays since.. Master Audio 7.1 just isn't common, and with most blu-ray titles being old releases the so called 5.1 sound isn't that great either. Plus JB stopped their b2g1f sale.. so I'm stuffed now - not that I could find any to buy before :-)

I buy a lot of my Blu-rays from OS, much cheaper than Aus. For instance, The Matrix trilogy is £10 from Amazon UK right now. I still pick up DVDs when they're cheap; I visit a lot of newsagents in and around my area where they sell dvds two for $10. The Post Office is a pretty good place for that same deal; I found the P.O. at Patterson Lakes to be extremely reliable in having a wide range of DVDs.

Cheers.

I buy most of my dvd's and blurays from JB HIFI and online I buy from either ebay or Amazon.

I also seem to be constantly having to add the profiles to DVD Profiler.

Do you people ever use the distributor sites to see whats coming or whats available? I have a few that I visit on occasion. I would guess there are more aussie ones.

Anchor Bay Entertainment New releases Has Search for titles and good basic info
Beyond Home Entertainment New releases Has Search for titles and very good info
Big Sky Video Few titles, little info
Eagle Entertainment New releases Has Search for titles and very good info
Gryphon Entertainment New releases Has Search for titles and good basic info
Madman Entertainment  New releases Not bad, Has Search for titles and good basic info
Monster Pictures New releases not much for info - you need an eccentric taste for these films
Paramount  Terrible, only promote new movies.
Pinnacle Films  New releases Has Search for titles and good basic info
Reel DVD  Don't appear to cater to the public at all.
20th Century Fox New releases Has Search for titles but not good basic info
Roadshow Entertainment New releases Has Search for titles but not good basic info
Sony Pictures/Universal Pictures terrible don't even bother (unless someone else found something?)
Walt Disney Home Entertainment  Don't really seem to worry about home use.
Warner Bros New releases Has Search for titles but not good basic info

I certainly do use Distributors, such as:
Umbrella
Icon Home Entertainment
Accent Film Entertainment
Acorn Australia
Encore Entertainment

Instead of listing them all; here is a site that has them listed for you:
Film Studios and Distributors

fx: falls off chair!

I just ordered 10 blu-rays, JB Online and surprise, surprise. 7 of them are already in the database! (although a few need some fixing..)

Amazing, usually I get about a 20-30% hit rate. Maybe W0m6at got in and bought up all the 2for$20 specials before me.    Oops no.. his name is only on one of the contrib notes... Actually I find it easier to order those specials online, I went in store last week and looked for an hour and only managed to find 2 to take home, browsing the specials online is much easier (and obviously one spends more money...)

(Parsec - trying to keep the aussies thread alive)
