Becoming complacent means becoming a corporate sheep. If more people demand choice they get choice. If they don't have a choice, they find ways to make their own choices, until corporations see that their model is unsustainable. Shrugging and paying for unacceptable goods and services tells big corporations that their limitations and DRM protection schemes are just fine.

If I want a "digital copy," I want a hassle and DRM free file that I can put on whatever device I want. If they don't give me that choice, I don't buy into it. I won't use them if they come with the movie, and I won't pay for them if I have an alternative. (DVD -> AnyDVD -> CloneDVD Mobile)

But, then again, if I remember correctly you are also one of the people on here who has no problem with piracy.  Please correct me if I am wrong.  I agree with not buying/using a product but I cannot support using illegal means to accomplish the change.  Digital media is included with physical media as corporations know people will buy them.  Otherwise they would have already changed the scheme.  While I am not a fan of digital media, I do like having blu and dvd media in one package.

Just to back up my statement, here's examples from new releases here in OZ this week. (Ok, they are new to us, although the rest of the world most probably got these releases 100 years ago..)

Perfectly Reasonable price increase because of blu-ray (taken from JB's online pricing):

After Earth (Dvd/ Ultraviolet)  $24.98
After Earth (Blu-ray/ Ultraviolet)  $29.98

Ripping us off with stuff we don't need:

Pacific Rim (Dvd/ Ultraviolet)  $19.98
Pacific Rim (Blu-ray/ Dvd/ Ultraviolet)  $36.98 (this is the only way to buy it blu-ray*)

Note the above examples have UV with DVD - this is only recently started to happen, often it was dvd only.

* except there is a 3D version as well - of course extra $

Of course, the first thing many people unfairly assume is "person supports DRM free" = "person is a dirty filthy pirate." That my friend is analogous to crying "witch." It's not only insulting, it's dark, and dangerous.

There was also a person on here (I can't remember who it was) who went to great lengths to call someone a criminal for wanting to sell his used copy of MS Office. It made me sick to read.

Only based on what they think right now, until further research shows otherwise. Based on the poll to this thread, I would bet that "digital copy" days are numbered.

I noticed that a lot of BD Live services (like MovieIQ) have closed. People simply didn't use them. It doesn't make sense to pay to maintain what no one uses.

My fears are that people will eventully (like in the next 50 years) lose the ability to control their own equipment, and their own media, including books. It really scares me when I see people who have no problems with giving up control, losing rights and abilities, and getting less for either the same or more money. And it seems I see that a lot nowadays. Not from everyone, but from way more than I would expect.

Don't like 'em.  I think they are a waste. Digital Copies are only slightly less dumb of an idea than including a DVD copy with the Blu-ray.  I don't like being forced to buy something I don't want.  It is difficult to find a blu-ray only copy of a movie.

I've gotten Digital Copies but I can't remember ever watching one. I'd rather pay a bit less and not get them.

I don't see what the big deal is.

I like having ultraviolet.  It is convenient, especially when I am traveling to relatives.  I can log into my account, and the kids can watch what ever they want.  I have also had "movie night" while away from the house, without having to bring my physical media, or bringing an excessively large storage device.

Most of the BD players, and a lot of tv's allow you to log into your account, and watch without hassle (short of losing internet connectivity)

As far as the DVD's included.  I enjoy them.  And until BD's replace my portables, I will continue to use them, especially on shorter day trips.  The kids are kept occupied, making for a stress free drive.

At least my opinion.

I don't use them. I don't mind them being included in the package as a download, but as far as when they're included on an actual disc (which seems to be becoming obsolete) they're just a waste for me.

I've only ever watched one Digital Copy, and that was for Jason Goes to Hell, because it was the "Unrated" cut of the film...since the idiots at Warner Bros. used the "R-Rated" version on the Blu-ray.

Yea, that isn't right.  Some examples from here...just released today:

Planes (DVD + Digital Copy) - $16.96
Planes (Blu-ray / DVD + Digital Copy) - $22.99
Planes (3D Blu-ray / 2D Blu-ray / DVD + Digital Copy) - $27.99

2 Guns (DVD) - $17.99
2 Guns (Blu-ray + DVD + Digital HD with UltraViolet) - $21.96

Since the price jump from DVD to Blu-ray is quite reasonable, the inclusion of the UV copy is a non-issue.  Not sure what is happening down under, but you are getting screwed.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.

I actually do like the DVD/BR combos a lot. It comes in very handy here. What with 4 people in the household... only one of us with a blu-ray player... the other three with DVD players... they allow all of us to enjoy the release. Not to mention If/When I go anywhere I can watch the DVD on my laptop... not possible with the blu-ray only releases.

What are they doing to you down under?

Pulled today from Amazon (all prices US)

Pacific Rim

Instant Video 3.99 rent 14.99 to buy

DVD+Ultraviolet      list 28.98  price 17.96
BD+DVD+UV          list 35.99  price 24.99
3d+bd+DVD+UV      list 44.95 price  29.96

Target has them at 18.99, 24.99, and 34.99
Best buy  21.99, 24.99 and  29.99.
Walmart 17.96, 24.96, 29.96

There is even a collectors edition 3d, bd, dvd, uv that is around 42.00

Most pricing is about the same for almost all sets that I buy.  If they were much different, I don't think my BD collection would be growing as fast.

Missing an option, Use them Occasionally

That would be my answer also.  The for me Occasionally < 1%.  The items I actually want Digital Copies of I usually don't have that option and wind up ripping them if I need.

First off, I am not calling you a dirty pirate.  Second I am not basing the belief that you support piracy due to DRM.  The comments I have made, are in regard to other comments you have made in the forums, from purchasing of software to selling keys to loaning keys and so on and in one or more case the listing of places software which may not be on the up and up could be located or possessed.  This is NOT a witch hunt.  I offered you the chance to avail yourself when I said please correct me if I am wrong.
