In my honest opinion, when you decide not to contribute anymore, you might also consider not to "contribute" in the forums quite as much? After all - the forums are for discussing DVDProfiler, and DVDProfiler is a user-built database, no? If you do not contribute data (which quite frankly is all that matters), why on earth would contributing users heed your suggestions or wishes?
This is your point of view. Contribution is a very very small part of the interest of dvdprofiler, since data that may be contributed are, for some users, really what they don't want. Local use is by far the most important for some users, and there is only one forum that is about contributing. All other forums are interesting for local use.
BTW no, DVDprofiler is not a user-built database. It's a program to profile movies on DVDs with the possibility to use, if you want, a user-built database. I don't even know how to respond to this ludicrous comment. (bold by me) | | | Berak

I don't even know how to respond to this ludicrous comment. (bold by me) Why bold the first part of the quote, as if the second didn't exist. If you think that dvdprofiler is not a program to profile movies on dvd, I think you are wrong. And if you don't have noticed that you may use it without using the online database, I think you missed something... And perhaps if you don't know how to respond to this comment, it might be because it's not so ludicrous... | | | Images from movies | | | Last edited: by surfeur51 |

No problem... there was no need to apologize in my eyes. I just wanted to be sure you understood I wasn't asking for those to be added to genre. Just a reason why I think we need more room for our custom genres on the profiles. | | | Pete |

And perhaps if you don't know how to respond to this comment, it might be because it's not so ludicrous... Surfeur, as you would probably know DVDProfiler ist the frontend (means: user interface) to a database. This database doesn't come from nowhere it is, wether you use the online database or parse the data on your own always a "user-generated" database. Simply because there is no possibility to import data directly from a third party. Denying this is, as Berak mentionend, ludicrous. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

I regret that you tranform one's thought by reading only part of answers and take conclusions that only fit with the bad perception you have of the poster. I summarize : Berak : non contributors should not post in forums, as contribution is the only real purpose of dvdprofiler which is a user-built database (for me, user-built made reference to online, as Berak was speaking of contributions) Surfeur51 : dvdprofiler is mainly a program, that can be used in local, without using the user-built online database, so Berak has no right to forbid the use of the forums to non contributors. Goblinsdoitall : a local database is user-built, so Surfeur's opinion is ludicrous... Well, if you want. I really regret that hatred is so much present here. | Posted: | | | | Although I doubt that there are many users who do it that way, it is entirely possible to not use the online database at all & only add manual profiles. |

I never said or meant that you are ludicrous, just your opinion that the DVDProfiler database (local or online) isn't user generated seems to be a bit off the road. I have no bad perception whatsoever of you, it's just that your view sometimes extremely differs from mine. But there are no hard feelings for that, on the contrary, I welcome a good discussion. What is not welcome are personal attacks of any kind. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?
