You have NO relationship to Invelos other than that of a user. Just exactly where do you get off, your ego seems to know no limits. Did God die and put you in charge or something? WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It will probably not die of loneliness, because some insiders will know about it and use it frequently, but the majority of the forum users will neither find nor use it. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! If I was trying to sell something -- i.e. with ads on the page -- you might have a case. By using the Corporate logo your page misrepresents Invelos Software, Inc. Anyone visiting that page will assume that it is affiliated and or sanctioned by Invelos, which, I suspect, it is not. | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection | | | Last edited: by Bad Father |

Check the little white asterisk next to the logo. It is a link. | | | -R. Windows 7 (Home Premium) SP1; 64-bit DVD Profiler 3.8.1 |

Reasonable objection. But I think that I can fix that. Check the little white asterisk next to the logo. It is a link. I'm not quite sure if that suffices. As long as Invelos didn't explicitly allow you to use their copyright-protected logo you violate their trademark. The asterisk doesn't help much here, because it's hardly recognizable if you aren't looking for it. Even worse (in copyright terms), is your copyright disclaimer in the name of Invelos. Correct would have been the clause "Logo of Invelos is used by kind permission". Only Invelos itself can give you the right to use their name and logo. As long as you don't have this rights all references to Invelos should be removed. (I'm not quite familiar with the US copyright rules, but I'm sure that they will not differ too much from the German rules) | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! | Posted: | | | | Quoting dav4is: Quote: Perhaps you missed the copyright notices at the bottom of the file? Your copyright notice is not properly formed. The way it is currently written, Invelos is the copyright holder of the entire page. I doubt that is the case. The copyright should read something like this: Name, logo and text based content are used without permission, under Section 107 of the United States Copyright Act, and is Copyright © 2007 Invelos Software, Inc. All rights reserved. Quote: The abstracts themselves fall under the fair use provision of the copyright act. While this might be true...only a judge can tell you for sure...you have copyrighted it. You can't do that. The only thing you can copyright is the format in which the text is presented. Quote: If I was trying to sell something -- i.e. with ads on the page -- you might have a case. Monetary gains, on your part, have nothing to do with it. All Invelos has to do is show that, by using their name and logo, you have infringed on their rights. The fact that you have thrown a copyright on the abstract text is more than enough to prove that claim. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | I have made the changes suggested by Unicus, but they seem to be stuck behind some sort of server cache -- which I don't know how to control. Curiously, if I fetch the page using my FTP client, the cache is bypassed and I see the changed page! It's not my browser cache, because I still get the old page using completely different browsers! Any help here would be most welcome! BTW, it was only the presentation format that I intended to copyright. | | | -R. Windows 7 (Home Premium) SP1; 64-bit DVD Profiler 3.8.1 |

Quote: BTW, it was only the presentation format that I intended to copyright. No worries mate, it is an easy mistake to make. I have been building, and running, fan sites for the better part of the last decade. That is the only reason I know, what I know, about this particular issue. The proper wording can save you a ton of heartache. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | Some sort of server cache, indeed! In my haste, i was placing the files in the wrong folder with my FTP client! I, too, have been dealing with copyright, on the 1000+ pages of my main site, here, for some 10 years. But they are all straightforward of-my-own-composition issues. Thanks for your help, Unicus. | | | -R. Windows 7 (Home Premium) SP1; 64-bit DVD Profiler 3.8.1 |

| Posted: | | | | Handling like topicsOK, here's what I have in mind. In addition to the present display of all topics in chronological order, I will have separate pages for topics mentioning particular keywords or tags. Keywords will be highlighted in all topics wherever they appear, and be made links to the appropriate page for that topic. (The highlight will be an inobtrusive underline, like the name Sarah Mackworth on this page.) | | | -R. Windows 7 (Home Premium) SP1; 64-bit DVD Profiler 3.8.1 |

As you have been told , yourr work is marvelous but we have been down this road before...I mean if you doing for self-entertainment...that's fine.
BTW, sir, I think it said an awful lot about you that you launched an attack on ME in your earlier post, but then when you were CORRECTED you neglected to apologize...lots of class, i daresay.

Skip Let it go Skip. No need to "hit the ball back over the net" Dav4is is on a mission. That's cool. More power to him. Who knows, maybe this one will work. If not it's no skin of our noses. As you say many of us have BTDT. He's heard our suggestions as well as others and is doing what he feels is a good thing. Nothing wrong with that. I will say it is good to see some enthusiasm from a new person. |

I wish him luck on the project and hope he defies the odds. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
