I haven't seen anyone arguing against the inclusion of #D as a format, though it could be considered a feature of the title. The point remains that a request has been made and Ken will reach a decision for some future version. Beyond that the discussion is purely academic and the only way to deal with it in the here and now is by way of tags. | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

LOL. Thank you for reminding me that irony is wasted on some people. I thought irony wasn't allowed here...or was that sarcasm Don't get me wrong guys, and gals, I'm all for a way to track 3D Blu-ray in DVD Profiler. I just disagree that 3D Blu-ray is a new media type is all. I hope there are no hard feelings here. | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |

| Posted: | | | | For me as a enduser of DVD Profiler is only this important:
I have all, DVD, Blu-ray, 3D in one collection. It makes it easier to find doubles. I search a title and see oh, I have the DVD and the Blu-ray, can sell the DVD. Important is, I must have a selection showing me all my 3D Blu-ray films. At the moment I must enter 3D to each title when it is not there. So I can search 3D and get them all.
Also I need for every 3D Blu-ray to know is it only 3D, there are a lot, or is it 3D and 2D playable. That should be coded also by the contributors. Because if I have a 3D and it tells me it runs also 2D, then I can sell my only 2D version, elsewhere not.
We have DVD and Blu-ray Combo, I miss the Blu-ray 2D/3D Combo and the DVD/Bluray 2D/3D Combo.
There are really some things to do by the programmers to bring order in these things, and best now before we have thousands of 3D titles in the database and must them correct afterwards with a lot of effort.

Frequently, you can't. I believe none of Disney's 3D discs are backward compatible and some from other studios aren't, either. I still think it makes more sense to treat this a video format your TV may or may not support though, like how your NTSC DVD player likely won't play play PAL DVDs, but that doesn't mean PAL DVDs are a different media type. |

It's not a "compatibility" issue. Disney went the same route as Sony did on some of their 3D Blu-ray titles. They authored the discs disabling play on 2D Blu-ray players. Sony did it due to copyright issues, i.e., FIFA World Cup 2011, while Disney did it due to quality issues. Normally any 3D Blu-ray title will play in 2D on a 2D Blu-ray player. There are drawbacks to watching a 3D Blu-ray title in 2D on 2D equipment though. 3D Blu-ray contains 2 files, one MPEG-4 for the right eye and another for the left eye. 2D players will play just one of these files and some issues may crop up, i.e., the 3D window, or black bars may creep in on the sides of the image. | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |

File level was not subject of discussion. I bet you can read out every "3D" disc content on your "2D" Blu-ray drive. You can read the files of a DVD-Audio, or a DivX movie or an Xbox game on a DVD drive. That doesn't mean we consider them to be the same medium. |

Different content but same medium or media. You are definitly confusing media type with content. You can record all sorts of content on a DVD disc...but the content doesn't change the media. Same with Blu-ray and 3D Blu-ray. | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection | | | Last edited: by Bad Father |

I said that they were recorded on the same media, namely DVD. I never said that they should be added to the database. That is already prohibited by the rules. | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection | | | Last edited: by Bad Father |
