It massively inflated my database, but unfortunately I have been adding again

I can't wait until Juquim releases his database, but I fear that as soon as he does, he will get a fresh set of very large files to re-merge.

Should keep you quiet for just a little while then?

Yeah, Deadman's upload is just his current database and not the merged one Juquim is putting together. It still has a lot of high quality photos though, so well worth downloading. Even if I am also eagerly anticipating Juquim's release.

KM

yes - its replaced a lot of poor quality photos with better quality versions.

Although I still have some that are better..

The master v1 is ready to go.  As soon as I can get it to RossRoy, it will be available for download.

Also, here's a repeat request to the community:

Quote:
Is there someone that can help us with a stats tracking for the download page so we can find out how many times the Master has been downloaded?

Juoquim, how is this coming along?

Also, re: stats tracking, I can't help you track it on someone elses host, but if you want I can host it and also track it, as my hosting company offers built-in tracking.

Or... maybe a free service like statcounter.com can do it. Not sure if they do individual files, or just overall site visits.

We are in the process of getting the master in place on 2 hosts.  Once we get all the kinks worked out, we will post the URLs to download it.

Thanks for the offer of hosting the file.  If we can't get all the kinks worked out with one of our hosts, I will contact you to help host it.

OK, I can edit this about 1,000 more times and no one will get the Master Backup, or I can just go with what I have now and get the word out...(No, REALLY!  My wife is the one that's Type "A" all the way!!)

Here's the official announcement:

ANNOUNCING the Headshot Master Database Backup v1.0, Working, and not (quite yet) Guaranteed Family Friendly!!

First, we have to address a couple of issues and of course the disclaimer.    (After all, a lot of us ARE from the US...  )

NOTES
* Keep in mind this is a working draft and there are most certainly errors.
* Due to the nature of the restore process, images new to the local database are never presented for comparison.  They are automatically added during the restore without a confirmation.
* We have 3 mirrors hosting the Master Database file with a couple of volunteers on deck for additional mirrors if we should have issues.
* With the creation of the Headshot Master Backup, we will be changing the submission procedures for updates.  I will put together an instruction set for using Rapidshare (a free file sharing service) to upload the backup submission to and emailing the URL to dvdprofilerheadshots@hotmail.com.

COMMON ERRORS
Here are some common errors I noted during the compilation but are correct in the Master:
* There is a Harrison Ford from the 1800's that many have Harrison "Han Solo" Ford's picture for.
* A female actor had Warwick Davis' pic submitted for her headshot.  (Sorry I don't recall her name.)
* Kevin "Ares from Xena and Hercules" Smith was submitted with Kevin "View Askew Prod." Smith's picture.

POTENTIAL ISSUES
Jykke and ruinneddaydreams have discovered a couple of potential issues to keep in mind.
* If you have to make a full database repair you lose all unassigned actors and crew along with their headshots.
* There are a lot of birth years in this database, many of which may not need to be in there.  If this is going to make you go Ape SH@T, then don't restore this database.

DISCLAIMER
Now the disclaimer:
Quote:
This is version 1.0 of the Head Shots Master Database Backup.  This is a working copy and has not been thoroughly examined to ensure that it is 100% family friendly.

This Master Backup contains images that were submitted by your fellow users of DVD Profiler and may contain some nudity for headshots that were new to the compiler's database and may not have been caught during compilation.

If you find this possibility offensive, or if the possibility of an inappropriate image slipping through is unacceptable to you, then please wait for the next version which will be thoroughly examined to ensure 100% family friendly content.

Before the next release, the Master will be examined and split into 2 versions: a "family friendly" and an "R-rated" version.

Should you happen to find an unsuitable image, or a wrong image, either post the details in this forum topic, or send an email to dvdprofilerheadshots@hotmail.com.  We will make sure the the offending image is moved to the "R-Rated" version..

Your download of this file from any of the mirrors constitutes your acceptance of the content.  The compiler and host websites cannot be held responsible or accountable for the content in this backup.

Now for the locations of the mirrors. Thanks to RossRoy, jykke, and ruineddaydreams for hosting the mirrors.

Headshots Master Database Download Page:  Choose a Download Mirror Here

To Import The Headshots Master:
Download from one of the mirrors to your local computer.  (It is approx 97 mb).
Open DVD Profiler
Click File | Restore Database
Browse to where you downloaded and select the Headshot Master
Click Next
Click Restore Cast & Crew Databases
Set "Existing Photos" to "Let me compare"

Decide which images you want to keep.
TIP: You can press "A" to accept the new image, or "K" to keep the existing image.  This will speed up the restore over relying on just the mouse.

Enjoy!

Now that we have the mirrors up and running, I would ask everyone to examine the backup as thoroughly as you can for errors and family friendly content after your have added it into your local database.  There are many cleavage shots, but I think we are mainly concerned about any topless and nude shots.

If you find non-family friendly headshots after you complete the restore, please either post the information (cast\crew members name and cast or crew section) here or in an email to dvdprofilerheadshots@hotmail.com.

New Process For Submitting Updates To The Master Headshots Database Backup

1. Import The Master Headshots Database Backup
Before you make a new submission of headshots, please import the Master Headshots Database backup into your collection.  (This will cut down on the number of image differences I will have to compare while updating the Master.)
Quote:
Download the Master from one of the mirrors to your local computer.  (It is approx 97 mb).
Open DVD Profiler
Click File | Restore Database
Browse to where you downloaded and select the Headshot Master
Click Next
Click Restore Cast & Crew Databases
Set "Existing Photos" to "Let me compare"

2.  Find New or Better Headshots
If you find missing or better headshots than are in the Master, paste them into the headshots in the cast & crew section of DVDP:
Quote:
Double Click the Cast or Crew Members Name in the Main View
  -or-
Go into the Cast or Crew section of the edit profile popup window.
  -then-
Copy the image from the web and right-click/paste on the "Drag an Image Here" box
  -or-
Drag the image file to the "Drag an Image Here" box

3. Backup Your Cast & Crew Database
Quote:
* File | Backup Database
* Uncheck everything except "Include Cast/Crew Databases, With Photos"
* Name the backup file with your DVDP ID so I can keep track of who has contributed (Mine would
  be Juoquim.dpb)

4. Split The Backup File
If your backup is over 100MB, split it into 90mb parts using WinZip or WinRar
Quote:
WinZip Instructions:
* Zip your "Cast & Crew only" backup file with WinZip (or some other compression program).
* Open the new Zip archive file in WinZip.
* On the actions menu, choose Split.
* Set the part size to 90 MB.
* Choose a new name for the archive.
* Click OK.

5. Upload To Rapidshare.com
Quote:
Go to Rapidshare.Com
Click the browse button and browse out to your files.
Click the Upload! button
Click on the Link: "I don't want a collector's account right now. Just give me the download-link."
Copy the link to the right of "Your Download-Link #1"
Paste into an email to dvdprofilerheadshots@hotmail.com
Do this for all parts of your backup file.
Once you have all the rapidshare download links in the email, send it off, and it will be combined into the Master Database.

Just downloaded the file in a few minutes. Thanks to all contributors, and especially Juoquim for setting it up. I expect to apply the database this evening.
