I just watched the last Episode of Season 3 and immediatly went online to see if there will be a Season 4.  It seems it'll be a while though, so I am looking into watching the old original 70s version.  I do remember watching 3 movies back as a kid in Germany titled:
Kampfstern Galactica
Angriff der Zylonen
Kampfstern Galactica 1980

When I checked online it only shows me the original movie and the complete epic series available on DVD.

What about Misson Galactica: The Cylon Attack?  And Battlestar Galactica 1980 (seems to be a 10 Episode Series)

Anyone know if those are availabe on DVD in any Region?  I know a lot will say that especially the later is nothing compared to the Series, but I really want to watch this again as I remember only bits and pieces of it...

Okay, let me explain:
Kampfstern Galactica is basicly a trimmed down version of the 3-part pilot episode "Saga of a Star World" with an alternative ending.
Angriff der Zylonen is a trimmed down version of the Pegasus 2-part episode "The Living Legend" with some scenes from "Fire in Space".

So if you'll just buy the season one set, you'll have everything covered on that part. I'd suggest buying the RC1 set, as this has more deleted scenes than the UK set.

Battlestar Galactica 1980 is a bad bad bad and very cheap continuation of the series, missing almost anybody of the original cast, and completely inferior in regards to storytelling (and mind you, BSG 1978 is already cheesy 70s TV series). There is no boxset yet, and hopefully never will be.
"Conquest of the Earth" is a trimmed down version of BSG 1980.

The movie version of Kampfstern Galactica is also aviable, I wouldn't recommend the german set though, since it's a bad NTSC->PAL conversion. Get the RC1 set.

No spoilers...though they were pretty good episodes...but it is not returning until 2008?!?!?!  I just don't get how these networks can treat a series like this.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

No it ain't - as you explained earlier.

The trimdown of Galactica 1980 is "Conquest of the Earth".

PS: Still have to watch the last 6 episodes of Galactica Season 3

Yep, but it won't continue the current storyline, will be a standalone movie.

I have been wanting to get into this show but I didn't want to commit until I could afford the season 1 & 2 sets (need a discounted price from somewhere) and the time to fully enjoy them!!!

Crap. I hoped they would go back to 13 episodes. To many filler episodes IMHO.

In an interview at Salon.com (and other interviews elsewhere), Ron Moore discusses much of this.

There's a real problem with serialized dramas. Viewers who miss episodes often do not return, those who do not catch the opening episodes tend never to watch. Fans become fairly loyal (to good shows), but there is inevitable losses in numbers viewing.

So the filler shows (stand alones) are needed for a couple reasons: mainly to satisfly writers' needs to create something not directly in the story arc, to detail a character...

But Pegasus will be the focus of a mini-series airing this fall, and immediately available on DVD after.

The quick release of season (or half-season) DVD sets are the only way for serialized dramas on TV to survive. Without the ability of loyal viewers to catch the episodes they missed, and to bring in new viewers and catch them up quickly, these multi-season serialized dramas would lose far more viewers over time than without these DVDs. There were complains about the DVDs for season 2 being released in two parts (2.0 & 2.5), but, by doing so, ratings held up better than the SciFi channel had expected, encouraging them to expand season 4 (starting in January) to 22 episodes.

Moore still wants to end the series at Earth. By looking at what works best for the series and the network, that might be at the end of season 4, or might be later -- no decision has been made yet.

So we now know four of the final five cylons.

And they like Bob Dylan.
If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.
