1 US gallon = 3.78541 Litres

0.948 times 3.78541 = £3.58856868 = $7.08320358

therefore 1 us gallon = $7.08

Here in the US they contribute the gas prices to the shortage of corn to make Ethynol. Thus the increase in milk, poultry, meat, gas, etc.... Also I believe that China was to blame, The War, Factories breaking down... The dog ate the key to the refinery so they can't open the gates to let the workers in to deliver the fuel so now there is a shortage. I wish that we the people could stop this somehow. We allow big business to take advantage of us.

Btw, I don't believe this crap about US demand raising the gas prices, it's mainly the local government with its taxes (about 66 % of the price I pay at the pump is tax), the rest is the OPEC countries limiting the amount of oil sold and the oil companies, trying to make an extra buck, especially right before every bank holiday in Germany (there's another one coming this weekend...).

This is something I follow quite closely as a politics junkie.  US prices are an amalgam of several factors:

At the top is the EPA regulations and their cafe blends (about 28 of them).  Every time a refinery has to change blends, they have to shut down for a week or so to make the changeover.  That causes spot shortages and consequent price spikes.  Then there is the fact that we haven't built a new refinery in the US in 30 years.  We have reached our capacity to produce product, which causes further spot shortages and price spikes.  Then you have the three to four fold increase in demand from third world countries and growth countries like China.  They are buying up most of the refined gas that we used to buy to supplement production.

Taxes on average account for about 40% of the price of gas.  The oil companies only get about 6-9 cents a gallon profit.  The biggest increase in cost is from the transport chain between the refinery and the pump.  The farther away you are from the source, the more it costs.  That's why gas in Illinois is $3.50 a gallon, and gas in Texas is about half of that.

Being in Denmark, you probably haven't seen farms and ranchs the size of small states like we have in many places here.  Full size pickup trucks are a virtual necessity on a big farm or ranch for hauling feed for animals, construction material, livestock, you name it.  Often these farms or ranchs are a long ways from a town, so you need something that won't break down, and cars and minivans just can't do the job.

Most of the trucks you see in larger urban areas are the smaller mini-trucks like the Chevy S-10.  They serve the same purpose on a smaller scale, but also are somewhat of a fashion statement in some areas.  In my area, many people in town have the full size pickups and put snow plow blades on the front in the winter to supplement the municipal snow plows to keep streets and roads open and safe.
