| Posted: | | | | After a lenghty discussion (again) in my favorite IRC-Channel #heimkino@IRCnet I take the risk of being burned: Please add the IMDB-ID to the DVD Profiler.It would make it easier to link to the IMDB, be it from inside the Profiler or from selfmade DVD list that are generated from the XML-export, like phpDVDProfiler or similar solutions. Yes, there is already a link, but that only utilize the title, and good luck if you want to go to e.g. Hamlet (1996) with this. If the ID 0116477 were available the link could point precisely to the right movie. To the Naysayer: No, this isn't "taking IMDB-Data" which is for good reasons not allowed. As pointed out in similar discussions before, the IMDB encourages linking. let the fun begin, Mithi PS The third option of course should read "I don't care, would n't use it." | | | Mithi's little XSLT tinkering - the power of XML --- DVD-Profiler Mini-Wiki | | | Last edited: by Mithi |

| Posted: | | | | Yes, I'd like this. Why just IMDb though? Why not all the main movie sites? | | | Last edited: by Squirrelecto |

| Posted: | | | | ^^ I'd rather have a link to wikipedia. Though would probably find the IMDB link useful too, i only use the site to find other movies from an actress/actor. | | | Last edited: by whispering |

| Posted: | | | | Why not a genuine movie database that is better than any other I've found so far:
www.tcmdb.com = Turner Classic Movies Database | | | John

| Posted: | | | | I voted No becose I dont want to see DVD Profiler become a add-on of IMDB. I like IMDB for some general info, but I dont like the way they catalog there stuff. So I strongly dont like the idear that DVD Profile and IMDB merge togeter. |

Using the IMDB-ID would not even download any data, it would just give you a link straight to the right movie, instead of launching a search on the title. As was said before, we already have a button that launches a search on IMDb using the title (or original title, depending) and gives you search results. Sometimes, it's hard to know exactly which one it is (try a search on Hamlet, just for kicks). Having the exact code would make it a 1-click affair. Although I personally don't need it as it is (I have an HTML window that automatically opens the IMDb page for the film, use a tag in the notes) but it would've been handy in the past. |
