| Posted: | | | | When I installed the new version (Version 3.0), I noticed that a DVD Profiler folder was added in the My Documents folder. I found that rather anoying as My Documents contain already a lot of various stuff and this folder is really unuseful for me, plus I don't see any configuration panel to edit/specify the location of this folder. I would prefer to store my collection data in the program folder under Program Files.
So I don't know if I'm the only one bothered but don't you guys think it would be nice to have the possibilty to choose the location of this folder in the option window ?! | | | Movie reviews on www.cinesia.net Cinesia.NET - Where the Review Fits You. | | | Last edited: by FredA |

BTW, the database was moved to My Documents by popular demand and because that is where it belongs... | | | Achim [諾亞信; Ya-Shin//Nuo], a German in Taiwan. Registered: May 29, 2000 (at InterVocative) |

| Posted: | | | | I didn't notice this but I am very happy that it is there. When I usually do a backup, I certainly include the My Documents folder. I really appreciate that it is now easier to find and backup. |

| Posted: | | | | Ok cool, I didn't see that possibility before...
But still, this doesn't resolve my problem. A DVD Profiler folder still remains in the My Documents folder. The program seems to use this folder to store layouts, reports, translations and stuff. Even if I delete it, the program creates the folder back. It would be nice to be able to move this folder to C:/Program Files/DVDProfiler/ !? | | | Movie reviews on www.cinesia.net Cinesia.NET - Where the Review Fits You. | | | Last edited: by FredA |

| Posted: | | | | I believe this was done for Vista compatibility. AIUI, Vista doesn't like programs accessing the Program Files directory. Having all of these changeable items in your My Documents folder actually makes backing them up easier anyway. | | | Kevin |

| Posted: | | | | Had a complete system crash yesterday (bad RAM) and couldn't log in to XP anymore (repair and safe mode didn't work). After had set up everything from scratch all I had to do was to install Profiler and copy back all that was in the backup copy of My Documents and restart the Profiler program to get all up and running. I love the new Profiler folder in My Documents, it really makes my life a lot easier. | | | Last edited: by Bartman |

| Posted: | | | | OK, I agree, it can be useful in those cases.. But for those who make regular backups (like everyone should do ) this folder in My Documents can become annoying. This difference of opinion between those who appreciate the folder in My Documents and those who don't, is precisely why a possibility to specify where you want your personal data to be stored should be added in the option panel. That way, it would make everyone happy ! | | | Movie reviews on www.cinesia.net Cinesia.NET - Where the Review Fits You. |

| Posted: | | | | In my case I have a sub-directory under "My Documents" for all film and television related stuff. I've moved the DVD profiler database to a directory there, but the original directories are still being auto-created under "My Documents".
It would be very nice to have the option, at installation and / or somewhere under options, to be able to control where the DVD Profiler files are stored (whether under "My Documents" or somewhere else, depending on backup or other needs). |

| Posted: | | | | Here, here! I agree that it would be excellent to give users those options for the database, reports, layouts, etc. (I also was disturbed to find the default location for these files along with a large database was my already taxed OS drive.)
Putting items in "Program Files" may be disliked by those who wish to blindly follow the suggested Microsoft canon (similar to those in the Apple cult), but putting files elsewhere has never been forbidden and is often encouraged for flexibility.
That said, why shouldn't users be allowed to create a directory on a less busy, non-OS partition/disk that's separate from "My Documents" or "Program Files" and put the files there? |

With 2.5, I had a double of the program and of my collection on a USB key, that I could be used everywhere. This is no more possible with 3.0, and this is the only regret I have with this new version. | | | Images from movies |
