Well, I was finishing tagging my collection and suddenly I was curious to see if everybody else is as anal as me about those.

As I'm never satisfied about the typical genres used, I like to set tags to a whole new set of different sub-genres or elements that I believe take an important role in X movie. By now I have a set of around 150 genres for these, so if I'm interested in watching something with a particular element, this is a great feature to use. Next I'm planning in including award winners & nominees. Yeah, I'm that obsessive.

So, do you use these at all? How? Now now, don't be shy & I promise not to tell your parents.
Funny, these cookies don't taste anything like Girl Scouts.

In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. Now the World is weird and People take Prozac to make it Normal.

I found the tag button for the first time today! I'm not sure how to use it, nor am I sure I want to; I'm anal enough as it is! I know that if I figure out how to tag - I'll be hooked! Then how many hours (days!) will it take me to tag 2,700 DVDs?!    Nooooo...

I voted "other". I use tags two ways not listed:

1. For all the unseen movies in my collection (not unseen DVDs, unseen movies) so if I'm ever in the mood to see something brand new (to me) they're easy to find.

2. For all DVDs where I will definitely do a double-dip should a better release come along. The majority of DVDs with this tag are non-anamorphic, but there's a number I want to upgrade for different reasons.

I voted to abstain from voting.

I figure I'll use Tags in the future, just haven't come up with a need for them as of yet.

"I set tags to profile some other option"

I have Tags for DVDs that need to be revised (covers & SRP mainly) and to create subcollections "Anime", "Criterion", "for sale" and "german".
The last is e.g. for my siblings who don't understand enough english to watch movies so they don't have to wade through tons of movies they won't loan anyway.
I used to create HTML-Lists with those tags from the exported XML, now in phpDVDProfiler they are embedded.

I tag for the type of purchase (upgrades, blind buys, etc), sub-collections (group all the Hitchcocks or Spielbergs) and category (film, TV, etc).

When they first got added, I discovered a little tip you might like. I posted it on Intervocative, but it was ages ago. I tag boxsets and then I can filter them out. All the child profiles are forced into the main list temporarily.

You can then get a proper alphabetical list of the contents. Especially handy because I have a few of those three movies in one boxsets, where the contents have little relation to each other (The Firm/The Rainmaker/Changing Lanes). Unfiltered, Rainmaker and Changing Lanes are hidden under The Firm. Filter out boxsets, The Firm appears under F; Rainmaker under R; and Changing Lanes under C.

Tag for non-theatrical edit with sub-tags: Censored/cut, Directors cut and uncut/restored
Tag for my wife's DVDs
Tag those 'to be sold' as I have double dipped a better version or have 2 the same
Tag for those I have partially updated and will need submitting when the update is 'more complete' or when I'm back online
Tag for having visually verified I've got the right pre-order EAN/UPC
Tag for Manual entries
Tag for those entries requiring Disc info and Images/improved images updates
Tag for basic genre/source with sub tags: TV series, Movie, Documentary/extras disc, Music and Box set parent
Tag for 'this year' releases for end of year 'vote for the best release this year' type Forum questions
'Temp' Tag for use in filtering

I may soon add a Tag for black & white too - I've only held off since it seems so obvious a checkbox for the main profile I'm surprised it hasn't been added into the main program!

P.S. Nice trick Jon; I have the tag already set up too but didn't know it could be used like that

Be aware you can use Flags and then one of the options for Flagged is "Edit Tags" which means you can set Tags on lots of entries at once!

I'm already using this plugin.

But still use a tag so I can list all the films where the Director won or Best picture etc so I can see those as a selection.

You sent me this once before, thank you, but when I tried to use it I lost the DVDP layout. I did finally figure out how to get that back but I'm not confident enough to try computer stuff without seeing it done first. Critical care nursing - piece of cake, computers - AGHHHHHHHHHH.
